Bah.. maybe there were alarmists back then, too? Seems like a common human trait to spell doom and gloom. Makes them feel important somehow; or so they think.
Disaster has always sold newspapers. Exaggeration is a built in human trait. That being said the use of those news accounts shows the lies being promoted by the Chicken Little Brigade for what they are.
