Seth Borenstein – Cold Is A Thing Of The Past

April 2012 heats up as 5th warmest month globally

By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer

Temperatures that would have once been considered unusually hot and record breaking now aren’t even in the top two or three, said Michael Oppenheimer, a Princeton University climate scientist.

The last time the globe had a month that averaged below the 20th Century normal was February 1985. April makes it 326 months in a row. Nearly half the population of the world has never seen a month that was cooler than normal, according to United Nations data.

“A warmer world is the new normal,” Oppenheimer said. “To me, it’s startling to think that a generation has grown up with global warming defining their world.”

According to our top scientists, human beings are now defined by a claimed half degree rise in temperatures. i.e. we have severely mentally ill people teaching our children at universities.

  1. It’s supposed to be 0.2C per decade and it’s been closer to 0.C per decade recently. And most of that .02C will occur at the poles (polar amplification) and show up as slightly warmer night time temperatures. So exactly, how could anyone notice changes that small right now, unless they were delusional?

These people are nutcases! That’s the basis for replaying my comment I just did a jnova: The notion of The Heretic, of course, points to the possible injustice of the persecution of skeptics by climate zealots. The doomsayers seem to desire to do great harm, as portrayed by the infamous head exploding school children video.
Equally disturbing is the possibility that the loons will succeed in enacting extreme destructive policies. Yesterday a wuwt article by W Eschenbach discussed the proposal for the govt in G Britain to hire a million “climate workers” that would consist of “teams of construction workers which would go street by street and renovate everyone’s homes.” Nothing was said about whether the homeowners would be able to keep their homes free of these “workers,” but a commenter suggested the scheme was akin to hiring half a million workers to dig holes, and another half million to fill the holes. Plus there was one comment that struck me, by Wagathan:

Is this something like what happened in China where a core of government employees were dispatched to eliminate the waste of feeding pets? You’d be walking down the street and a van would screetch to a halt and a squad of enforcement officers would fall out of it and club your dog to death at the end of your leach.

I can’t say for sure that this actually happened in China, but it sounds like something warmists might might want to do, along with whacky ideas they’ve had lately to do things like genetically engineer humans to be midgets to save resources. When these econuts get control, and we humans are the bad guys, you never know what they might do.
When you think about it, in 2009 the U.S. House passed a cap & trade bill that would have mandated 83% CO2 cuts by 2050 — back to 1867 per capita use levels. If this would have passed the senate, and stood the test of time, it would have taken a wrecking ball to civilization. The toll in human misery would have been grave. Would this have been much different than the misery caused by the govt clubbing of beloved pets?

  3. The economic forecasting also assumes net benefits to the planet up to 1C+ of additional warming before things go negative. While I take the view that such modelling is probably worthless, even among the ‘warmist’ community it is recognised that we are actually still in the *global benefit* phase.

  4. Joe Bastardi says:

When is Borenstein going to own up to the propaganda piece he did in 2007 about the ice cap disappearing in 2012. Here is the current arctic ice extent
    http://arctic-roos.org/observations/satellite-data/sea-ice/observation_images/ssmi1_ice_ext.png

He should try to explain why he was a part of that fiasco. And by the way Seth take a look at reality. GLOBAL TEMPS FOR THE YEAR ARE RIGHT HERE.. ON THE NCEP SITE THEY ARE BELOW NORMAL -.04 AND THAT IS WITH THE WARM US AND THE VERY WARM AMO INDUCED ARCTIC, WHICH IS BECAUSE OF THE WARM CYCLE IN THE ATLANTIC

    http://policlimate.com/climate/ncep_cfsr_t2m_ytd_anom.png

And since the PDO flip, the global temp in jagged fashion as been going down

    http://policlimate.com/climate/cfsr_t2m_2011.png

THESE ARE NCEP TEMPS.. not some right wing think tank.
NCEP is NATIONAL Centers for Environmental Prediction, hardly someone that is on my side in this debate. Go back and get your answers on why the ice is not going away ( and stop with the rotten ice, its still though and its growing where the Pacific has cooled and in 10 years will do so in the atlantic. Also GLOBAL sea ice remains near normal

Report the Facts will you, maybe you will have a chance to forecast them

  5. Joe Bastardi says:

By the way Seth, can we get an explanation on how this busted

    http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/12/071212-AP-arctic-melt.html

You are the Seth Borenstein of that article, I assume?

given the clear fact that as measured by the NORWEGIANS.. again hardly anyone in my camp
there is nothing even close to that happening, yet you refuse to look at anything except examples, such as the US being warm, that would challenge your point

A helpful article on this kind of ignoring of other ideas so you can march merrily along with your own… its called Dunning-Krueger effect

  6. Where do they hide this warming. I want something of that. It’s cold where I live and it’s not the Arctic. We still heat from time to time and that’s not normal. The winter was (nearly) warmer.
I get it Warm winter + cold spring + summer + fall = whatever they tell us.

  7. Sundance says:

I often feel like Picard in this scene where a Cardassian interrogator is trying to break Picards will by getting him to accept that there are five lights when there are only four. Borenstein keeps trying to shove is view down my throat. I’m still not seeing the “light” that he wants me to see. 🙂

  8. Rob says:

Climate scientists will soon have their own faith based channels on TV, they are a new breed of televangelist. It is the only branch of science where a low IQ is a requisite for being part of the gang.

  9. dmmcmah says:

Shouldn’t the article say “Michael Oppenheimer, a Princeton University climate activist.”

  10. Billy Liar says:

Is he saying that ‘April 2012 heats up as 5th warmest month globally’ out of the four we’ve had so far this year?

  11. Andy DC says:

With extrapolations, adjustments and interpolations, the temperature trend can be anything you want it to be.
