I was anchored at the upper end of Puget Sound below Protection Island that morning when I heard some explosions and the rigging on the sailboat rattled. There were three distinct reports. I figured the Navy was doing some live bombing runs somewhere nearby as its not all that far from Whidbey Island NAS.
But it was over 150 miles to the mountain.
