1931 : Third Hottest Year In US History – Before The Data Was Tampered With

According to the thermometers in the USHCN database, 1931 was the third hottest year on record in the US – after 1921 and 1934.

USHCN then adjusts 1931 temperatures downwards by a remarkable 2.51 degrees, before they publish it. The year 1931 had 708,317 valid thermometer readings, but somehow Tom Karl and James Hansen have recently determined that this huge body of data averaged 2.51 degrees too high. (This is the same James Hansen who can precisely calculate the temperature in the high Arctic, without a single thermometer reading  north of 80N.)

So what else was going on in 1931?

  1. Brian G Valentine says:

The El Nino of 1930-1931 was not particularly severe, at least compared with 1918 (say). I’m not sure what the overall effect was, but it must have caused air stagnation off the US and other coastlines for a period persisting for some years

That’s the best I can come with

  2. Andy DC says:

Who gave these people the right to tamper with data, then send out doctored data to the public as if it was fact? Then call for war crimes tribunals for those who question the doctored data! Outrage is not a strong enough word.

  3. scizzorbill says:

I used to think Hansen was insane. It is worse than I thought.

    • You are exactly right, sizzorbill.

I couldn’t believe it myself when I realized the implications of the Climategate emails and documents that were released in 2009 and the strange responses of world leaders and leaders of the scientific community, including the US National Academy of Sciences, the UN’s IPCC, the UK’s Royal Society, the Nobel Prize Committee and the editors of leading research journals like Nature, Science, MNRS, PNAS, etc., etc.

Fear of annihilation by “nuclear fire”</b apparently convinced world leaders to promote misinformation about the energy stored at the cores of heavy atoms and stars after 1945 by directing government research funds (via anonymous reviews [1]) to scientists who would confirm false models of the interiors of nuclei and stars by Hideki Yukawa [2] and Fred Hoyle [3,4].
