“The Weather Never Used To Be Like This”

I was on a conference call to Toronto this morning, and several people were discussing the heat – saying “it never used to be like this.”

In 1969 my grandmother told me that “we didn’t used to have these bad storms until they started shooting all those rockets into outer space!” Of course, she was wrong, but I thought the line was a good basis for further use. Now, whenever someone tells me that “we never had heat (or snow or drought or flood or wind or earthquakes, or whatever) like this before global warming!”, I always answer, “Yeah, it was never like this until we stopped going to the moon!”

In 1936, Toronto hit 106 for three straight days. Let’s see if they can even approach that for one day during this current heatwave. St. Louis was 115 in July 1954. Let’s see if they can even approach that.

@Steve: When they said, “it never used to be like this”, they were correct … it used to be worse. All of Toronto’s monthly record highs and record humidex (heat index) values occurred before 1983! Here is the link:

From my own personal experience, I have lived my entire life in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and while this weather is hotter than normal, I have experienced many heatwaves like this one in the last 30+ years … it is nothing unusual.

Extreme weather in the 1930s, and most other times, was much worse than it is now.
And as Steven has pointed out there’s always been extreme weather, that’s the nature of nature. But it actually seems calmer now then what we’ve heard about from the past; its just that the lib media and Drudge, eager to bring global warming in as a suspected culprit, jumps on every little storm or heat wave and mega-amplifies it in a shrill echo chamber.
And they ignore record breaking cold temperatures that have occurred within the last week in FL, WA, MT, AZ, TN, and other states. And now it looks like we are going into are 5th year in a row with a cool summer in the L.A. area. In the past, looking at Pasadena, most or a near majority of summers days were at least 90, and many topped out over 100. But during the last 4 summers we have had very few days over 90! And this continues now for a 5th straight year, this can’t be chance anymore.
But look at the 10 Day forecast for Pasadena’s high temps: Today: 79, Tomorrow: 84, Sat: 84, 86, Mon: 87, Tue: 88, 87, 86, 86, Sat July 14: 85. Not a single day over 90. And thus far, we haven’t reached 90 even once yet, as far as I know. It’s just that the consistent coolness in the L.A. area has become predictable, almost as if some force is at work keeping it cool, where it used to be the opposite. Yes, we should have at least some hot days in the 90s or 100s; but it is going to be very few.

Truly sad that they have been sucked in to the alarmist’s propaganda.

Never is a VERY longtime, especially when there WAS weather like this a very short time ago. It takes an enormous selfishness, IMO, to disallow even the possibility of events occurring prior to your birth (or beyond your memory) from entering your current ‘self-awareness’. An agenda, fueled by ego, creates an all consuming tunnel vision. A Black Hole.

Probably one of the few true statements that I’ve ever heard come from warmists. They are right because the weather never used to be like this, it was a lot worse when carbon dioxide levels were lower 🙂
