While the FBI says it’s investigating the shooting in the lobby of a national conservative organization in Washington Wednesday as a potential hate crime, experts say the shooting suspect does not fit the typical profile of someone involved in such violence.
Floyd Lee Corkins, who allegedly shot a security officer after saying, “I don’t like your politics,” was characterized, in an affidavit released Thursday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as a strong supporter of gay rights. The shooting took place at the Family Research Council, a conservative think tank known for its opposition to gay marriage and abortion rights.
Mr. Corkins, a volunteer at a community center for gays, held “strong opinions with respect to those he believes do not treat homosexuals in a fair manner,” the FBI affidavit quoted his parents as saying.
You can’t make this stuff up. What is the typical profile of a shooter? Is it the Obama voter who massacred a movie theatre in Aurora? Is it the Muslim who massacred an army base in Texas? Is it the Discovery Channel eco-whacko shooter? Is it the eco-whacko Unabomber?
And then they move seamlessly from the gay terrorist story, to a discussion of gay rights.
Articles like this remind me why the press has become the worst enemy of freedom.
I have been wondering for a while if it is possible to maintain our free society despite the relentless destructive influence of the press. It’s getting harder to imagine that we can.
It is at least comforting to know that the FBI thinks the murder was potentially not done out of hate, but for some other reason.
A free press has only so much influence. People will buy only so much BS, and the press needs to change its story to suit. I rather suspect though that loyal followers of CSM will buy pretty much anything they tell them.
Press controlled by government; now that is scary.
When everyone knows the press is controlled by the Government, they put very little credibility in it (as in the old Soviet press). But in our current situation, the press is actually believed to be checking facts and reporting things as they happened – that’s way more scary to me.
It’s getting hard for me to even click on links to msm articles. I don’t want to support this garbagola in any way.
Boy you got that right.
I’m starting to think that maybe we’re wrong to think that there ever was an impartial and intelligent press at all. Perhaps we have just improved our opinions of the past because of the present.
Nevertheless, the trajectory for impartiality and intelligence of our free press resembles a death spiral.
the press is free to publish whatever the govt allows it to..
thought you all knew that?
Australias a good case in point right now.
no msm pages to run with any sceptical views, nothing about the rather bad behavior past n present of a whole pile of very iffy, on the nose politicians..inc the excuse for a PM we have now..
and our pm simply threatened all the main players, worked just fine for her..
got radio and paper staff sacked, end of issue.
govt bods think that Chinas got a great idea with their net controls, just ask the fool touting the NBN a horrendous money wasting national broadband that wont go outside of most already well served areas..he likes govt control over all private blogs and pages..
and I gather soteros considering yet another EO to screw your freedom netwise as well.
