Global Temperatures In 2012 Are Almost As Warm As They Were In 1988

In 1988, Hansen forecast catastrophic warming. Today he said his forecasts had come true.

Temperatures are slightly lower so far this year than they were during the first half of 1988

  1. Don Sutherland says:

RSS measures atmospheric temperatures, not surface temperatures. The scientific literature indicates that the lower troposphere is warming more slowly than the surface. Also, the spike on your graph refers to 1998 not 1988. In terms of surface temperatures, the first 6 months of 1988 had an anomaly of +0.420°C on GISS. The first 6 months of 2012 had an anomaly of +0.497°C. On the NCDC dataset, 2012 was also warmer than 1988 in the January-June period.

    • Typical FUD. You didn`t refute anything I said. 2012 is slightly cooler than 1988

The reason that land temperatures are reported to be rising faster than satellite temperatures is because of fake upwards adjustments and UHI. That is why satellite temperatures are a much better indicator of reality.

I trust NCDC reported temperatures about as far as I can throw them. The adjust US temperatures upwards by 1.5 degrees relative to 1930 before they report them.

      • Don Sutherland says:

The surface temperature datasets say 2012 is warmer than 1988 globally. GISS, HadCRUT, and NCDC all agree on that point.

2012 is slightly cooler than 1988…Really?
I was around working construction in 1998 and am still here today and I can tell you first hand that temps in 2012 are hotter than 1998.

But sucking up to Mike “I hate Al Gore” Rivero is a sure way to get published.

Go out in the MidWest and ask farmers who are watching their crops wilt away if they think 1998 was hotter.

        • Are you having difficulty distinguishing between 1988 and 1998. Might want to sharpen up your reading skills a little bit and recognize that Oklahoma is not most of the planet.

  2. Comparing SATS to land surface was never a problem for climatologists until they started to diverge. Also note AGW theory claims the SAT temps should have a greater relative trend than land surface and the opposite has happened. So it’s actually “worse than it seems” ?
