Hansen Uses 30 Year Cherry Picked Time Period To Prove That Climate Is The Most Extreme In 10,000 Years

You can’t make this stuff up. He claims that the weather is the most extreme in 10,000 years based on a baseline of “the last few decades

What a brazen liar this man is. He wrote the exact opposite ten years ago.

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

NASA GISS: Science Briefs: Whither U.S. Climate?

There were twice as many daily all-time high temperature records set or tied during the 1930s as in the 2000s, for USHCN stations which were operational during both decades. That is why he doesn’t start his baseline until the 1950s.

Perhaps the 1930s was more than 10,000 years ago?

Nice lookin’ beard. Guy looks like a derelict.

Homer should sue , that guy is using his image without propper atribution . Furthermore homers’ reputation is endangered by this guys actions as you can’t tell them apart by looking .

So what’s the difference between Hansen in August 1999 and now?
More than couple of million dollars is my guess.

  4. Michael D Smith says:

1951 to 1980 is now the standard for the last 10,000 years. WOW!!! It proves that Hansen thinks the climate really is static before 1950 and after 1980. Who is the climate denier now?

I’m going to quit my day job and become a climate scientist. It is SO much easier than what I do.

Same ol’ song & dance. Trying to claim, as conclusive, the data trends of decades, from a cyclical system which claims a billion years of existence. No real science would tolerate this method.

  6. Laurence Crossen says:

One of the main criteria of a legitimate scientific theory is that it preserves a maximum of the successes of the previous theories. Why and how do the warmists jetison the Holocene Climatic optimum?

    • kirkmyers says:

Hansen also completely ignores the Roman Warm Period and Medieval Warm Period (both well within the last 10,000 years). He and friend Michael Mann are doing their best to smooth out those warm periods and delete them from public consciousness. In their cerebral echo chambers, data that doesn’t support the current “earth is overheating” scare story is definitely an inconvenient truth. All such factual heresy must be banished from the historical archives, lest it interfere with the crusade to save humanity from CO2 Armageddon.

Warmist scientists like Hansen, Mann, Trenberth, Muller and McKibben are the green grifters of the eco-loon movement. How does any rational adult (or fellow scientist, for that matter) take them seriously?

  7. Damien Biggs says:

I’m not sure exactly what argument you’re trying to make.
Records by their very definition only go upwards.
    This line
There were twice as many daily all-time high temperature records set or tied during the 1930s as in the 2000s

doesn’t actually mean that the 30s were warmers than the 2000s! If Septemer 20th 1931 set an all time record of 120 degrees then 120 degrees on September 20th 2005 wouldn’t break that record. If you’re skeptical about global warming surely it would be better to present data that shows that previous decades were actually warmer.

  8. He’s from NASA so too many people will believe him.
