I was just going into the military in 1972 and I remember all the global cooling, overpopulation hoopla quite well – was stationed in Germany in the early ’70s and it was cold. I was in the armored corps and had an opportunity to spend plenty of time out in the elements.
Looking back after having going through the fashionable thinking directed against mankind due to the starvation / overpopulation / limited resources fetish; and now seeing the Man-Made-Global-Warming fashionable thinking directed against mankind due to the CO2 fetish it is clear to me neither one was remotely based upon science – both were just pseudo-religious nonsense with the core belief that mankind – especially the man part – is particularly evil. It will be only a matter of time and divine, delicious, retribution will be dished out by Mother Gaia the all-powerful earth Goddess.
Hokum. Pure baloney. Popular though. Lots of gullible souls out there sign up for this nonsense and there are no shortages of Erlichs, McKibbens, et al cashing in on the suckers.

Those that choose science have some capacity and aptitude to do so, but generally those with smoking high IQ’s don’t and won’t pursue climatology, which should be apparent to the most casual observer.
Unfortunately some of those that do become climatologists are not bright enough to program what is needed into a generational model, as they miss the discipline needed to contemplate a large number of processes, physical, electromagnetic and chemical along with the run-of-the-mill geo-physical processes.
That is where the public is left, in the shitter without a full accounting of our planet’s past, present & future!
It’s a tough nut to crack and even if you have a smoking hot set of ideas on how the climate system behaves it takes 30-60 years to fully test them. Don’t expect much progress in this field for a long time. Weather forecasting took decades to work out and it’s far from perfect, and that was when researchers had immediate feedback on their results.
I was a climatology student three decades ago, and can tell you that as long as they continue to obsess over CO2, there will be no real advances in the field.
Don’t mention population bomb. I’ll explode.
