a report from Reuters says every Volt sold is costing General Motors a lot — like almost $50,000 per car. According to estimates provided by industry analysts and manufacturing experts

Bankrupting the country for the good of the planet Obama’s campaign
And I believe the Dept Defense has now been instructed to buy Volts to “green their fleets” of vehicles.
Tom Friedman will doubtless admire Obama’s ability to command the markets like his favorite ChiComs. They solved air pollution during the Beijing olympics by banning driving.
Dictatorship-ing is way-fun!!
Reblogged this on Climate Ponderings.
Obama’s greening of the military includes Chevy Volts. What troops we have left after cutbacks can feel good that they are helping the unions by driving Volts.

Commie cars make proud soldiers?
He also donated my mother’s retirement fund to the unions.
More like greening up the pockets of his big donors like the UAW.
$50K is just the cost of manufacturing an individual vehicle. The cost of all of the subsidation since the inception of this project has figured to total $250K per car sold.Of course, this figure will vary as amortized over the product lifespan, but not much since sales are abysmally low and they continue to lose more money on every Volt sold.

the national post article includes $1billion product development (not just manufacturing costs), and is based on 21,000 cars sold. The one in patriotupdate is based on 6,000 cars sold, and estimates are between $50,000 and $250,000. You don’t have to make it worse than it is.
I take it that you aren’t a business person.
I haven’t read the original report but the $50K in the journalist’s article is claimed to include the amortization and capital expenditure.
If they continue to sell 400 per year, they will pay that off in the year 25,000 AD
Starting January 1, 2014, the average family of four will also be paying $14,000.00 a year for his “health” plan. That “health” plan will also include a civilian military force answerable only to the president. Every health care plan needs a constabulary military force, don’t you know.
The marketing people at GM must have known these things would be about as popular as polyester leisure suits; there were undoubtedly some pretty ugly meetings behind the scenes when this one rolled out
I think you mean, ‘plopped out’.
