USHCN has updated their “raw monthly” data for August, and the summer of 2012 (June-August) was the 16th hottest in the US. The three hottest summers were 1936, 1934 and 1901.

Even after almost two degrees of upwards adjustments relative to 1901, USHCN was only able to cheat 2012 up to the #4 spot.

If they allowed you or I to adjust the data, we would make the past summer the 4th coldest. Once agenda driven concerns are allowed to adjust (cheat) all bets are off.
I just don’t get how the alarmists just blow this sort of thing off. Can someone explain how the alarmist mind works to me? I’m serious.
