The Movie Which Must Not Be Named

Obama 2016 has passed Al Gore’s Sci-Fi flick at the box office.

Two weeks ago, Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary “2016: Obama’s America” passed Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” for second place on the all-time box-office money list for political documentaries. It now has a box office gross of more than $32 million. But if you’re an independent or a liberal who’s unplugged from conservative websites and talk radio, you’d never know.

You didn’t see D’Souza on CBS or NBC (although he showed up on ABC’s “Nightline” in late night). There were no cover stories in Time or Newsweek. The film opened on just one screen in Houston when it premiered on July 13, and then spread to 10, and eventually to 1,000 theaters in August, and 2,000 theaters in September. A cultural sensation, yes — but somehow not newsworthy.

How does the coverage fare compared to Fahrenheit 911?

You get the feeling that the media is never going to let Romney’s positives or Obama’s negatives get thru to the public. If Romney puts in a stellar debate performance and Obama drools all over himself, they will still say Obama won.

The sad fact is just this, and nothing less.

    1. Obama is the one selected to bring to completion a project started on 24 Oct 1945.

    2. We are living in the “1984” that George Orwell warned about in 1948, http://www.george-orwell.org/1984 , almost immediately after being warned by someone, probably fellow science fiction writer, Fred Hoyle, that information about

a.) Japan’s Atomic bomb project was hidden from the public to promote the United Nations on 24 Oct 1945 [1]

b.) Energy (E) stored as mass (m) in cores atoms was falsified [2]

c.) Energy (E) stored as mass (m) in cores stars was falsified [3]

You’re right of course Andy. If Obama blows it big time it will be referred to as a few “gaffes”. If Romney does it it will be called the end of his run for President.
I know if I was president Romney and the media was openly hostile to me I wouldn’t give them the time of day. Wouldn’t let them into the daily press briefings either. NBC or CBS would only get one chance and if they told a lie or spun something innocuous into a really negative article they would be gone and I would publically tell them why.

I think we need to go a lot further. We’re supposed to have a free press, uncensored…. but we do not. They are captured, and censor anything damaging to their masters. Can’t say I have the perfect solution, but it would probably begin with pulling licenses and requiring an overhaul of their boards. I think a legitimate case could be made of the 12 to 1 favor they give the left. Bad press, you get 12 stories to 1 if you’re right wing. Good press? You get 12 to 1 if you’re left wing. Time to flush the toilet.

Now you’re sounding like the Fairness Doctrine. That is absolutely the wrong approach. Instead, use the free-market system the way it works most effectively. Don’t support or patronize those that lie, further, and something I have been wondering about for a long time, why are there never any lawsuits against those that publish and propagate lies in the media? In so many cases, this should be a slam dunk. Take for instance the times that ABC and CBS have purposefully doctored video (like the Travon Martin case) and purposefully lied to and deceived their audience. These cases should be a slam dunk for any young and crafty lawyer. Trust me, if ABC, CBS, or NBC got slammed a few times with a couple $million lawsuit, they would change their ways very quickly.

Good call Squid! A la carte cable/satellite programming could do the trick, I know I would have a lot fewer “news” channels.

      • LLAP says:

@Gator: Or you could do what I did until “a la carte” becomes a reality … when I moved houses over 6 years ago, I cancelled my cable and have never gone back.

      • gator69 says:

Wish I could. I don’t have time to read everything I need to know, and most of the time when I am at home multitasking, I have a radio or TV on with news/commentary content. I am also addicted to documentaries and live concerts (Assoc’s of Arts was in Music Performance).

My a la carte list would be a handful of channels, and possibly only 2 of them news.

@Gator: “My a la carte list would be a handful of channels, and possibly only 2 of them news.:

Sounds about what my list would be like. I don’t think I would have more than 8 to 10 channels if I could select the ones I wanted. I would even pay more for 10 channels I want than for a package of 60 where I only get 5 or 6 good ones and the rest are crap.
