Freak heat? ROFLMAO.
The closest long-term USHCN station to Phoenix is at Buckeye, about 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix.
Since 1893, Buckeye has had
- 635 days 114F or above – five per year
- 2,626 days 110F or above – twenty per year
- 11,629 days 100F or above – ninety per year
My in-laws from Phoenix are here with us right now in Michigan. High tomorrow here is 75°F. They are loving every minute of it.
It is also 75F in Santa Fe right now – not far from the center of the heat wave

Just got back from walking the dogs here in Phoenix. It is supposed to be 114F at my locale but it doesn’t seem quite that hot. I heard something on the radio that the fire in NM was supposedly shading the heat somewhat. 114F is no big deal here – just another balmy Arizona afternoon.

OMG! Any more carbon emissions and we’ll turn that area into a great big desert southwest.
