One Meteorologist’s Come-to-Jesus Moment on Climate Change
Like many TV weathermen, Stu Ostro didn’t believe in climate change—until extreme weather and scientific evidence changed his mind.
Ever since he was a kid, Stu Ostro has been, in his own words, “obsessed with the weather.” One day when he was around 11, he recalls, a lighting strike hit the house across the street in Somerville, New Jersey, while he and his brother watched from their porch—sending fire trucks scrambling, and the French fries that Ostro was eating “went flying.” Back then, Ostro’s weather fascination manifested as a “phobia” of thunder and lightning; nowadays, as a senior meteorologist at the Weather Channel and head of its team of tornado and hurricane specialists, his obsession takes a rather different form. Try perusing his 1072 slide long and ever-growing PowerPoint on extreme and unusual weather phenomena—and how they may relate to climate change—and you’ll get some sense of it.

The Earth never used to have extreme weather, so we must worship Gaia or be damned to eternal CO2 hell.
I spect Stu’s revelation came when his NBC bosses had a talk with him.
I hear Harold Camping had quite a presentation as well. Maybe they should get together and compare delusions.
He has the eyes of a fanatic (or an unemployed young actor seeking work–take your pick).
I noticed that too Harry. Why do all these eco fascists all have the same look on their faces? In many ways they look alike.
“…may relate to climate change.”
operative term there is “may”…
In the article it says that “like many tv weathermen…Stu didn’t believe in climate change.” Yet, we keep hearing that 97% of “weathermen” believe in climate change. I guess that contradiction would ruin Stu’s “come to Jesus moment.”
Isn’t obvious to everyone that these global warming nuts are currently putting together a major campaign to make “climate change” relevant again? Maybe it’s about Keystone, or maybe it’s just the general direction of the debate and evidence contradicting the warming hypothesis, but the left have been on a rampage for a few weeks now.
I think the recent upgrade of Friday’s tornado from an E3 to a record-breaking E5 is BS too. All part of this same campaign to reclaim people’s opinions on climate change through fear. Same as always.
Wow, he looks at a few anecdotes, ignores history and long time scales, doesn’t recognize reporting bias (24 hr news cycle, internet), and flip-flops. He’s not a critical thinking scientist.
The alarmists of the past have been swept in the dustbin of history: http://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2013/06/05/inority-view-n1611914/page/full
Perhaps he missed this from Paul Walsh, vice president of weather analytics at The Weather Channel:
“The lawn and garden season is going longer and stronger than last year. Of course last year we were up against tremendous heat waves and drought, and this year it’s been the complete opposite,” Walsh said.

These idiots can’t see the forest for the trees.
They just see what they want. For them this is a matter of belief (believers vs. deniers) and not learning what is happening or facts.
According to the Weather Channel, this latest OKC tornado was the widest EVER! Please excuse me if I’m a little dubious.
I heard 2.6 miles.
Widest ever MEASURED.
When the alarmists started naming every cloud, I predicted it was a strategy to make storms appear more frequent. Well, the Weather Channel confirmed my fears this past week when they posted a graphic entitled ‘A Tale of Two Seasons’. In it they compared the number of ‘named storms’ recorded in 2010 with those of 1992, 19 vs 7.
Sleaze. Bags.
We have a few clouds over Perth today. They’ve been named Doug and Trevor. People here have been making preparations for their arrival. Putting on a sweater, walking a bit faster, heading to the coffee shop are all excellent preparations for these named clouds.
BTW Broome had its record June daily rainfall yesterday of about 6 inches. Gotta love nature.
It was originally an E3 that got “upgraded” to an E5. I doubt it was an E5 at all. The hoaxers need something to hype up. It’s gotten to the point where you can’t even trust what your weather people tell you, they lie and manipulate data so much.
Gotta lie to keep his job…
“Stu Ostro didn’t believe in climate change—until extreme weather AND scientific evidence changed his mind…
Capitalisation is my own.
There’s always been extreme weather. And software models are manmade filters fed with human-interpreted data.
Models are theories. A model could simply be a bunch of Excel spreadsheet calculations. Typically a mix of data, and assumptions, on the behaviour of that data.
We should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was “legal” and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was “illegal.”
–Martin Luther King, Jr., “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” Why We Can’t Wait, 1963
Rubbish. Hilter set fire to the Reichstag in order to declare a national emergency. How was that “legal” ? Just because a famous person says something, doesn’t mean it isn’t nonsense.
More important is how Hitler treated opposition parties. It’s not unlike how Obama’s IRS treated the Tea Party..

I cannot recall ever seeing this guy, Stu Ostro, on the Weather Channel before. That photo does not do him any justice though, as he looks like a very troubled young man at first glance.
Before I will believe he was converted from skeptic to true believer I would need to see proof. Never believe these congenital liars. It is in their genes to lie.
TWC is a joke nowadays. They used to have a pretty reliable “Local on the Eights” which now may as well be called “Local every so often”. The usually squish that segment down to the chyron scroll area on the bottom so it is useless anyway.
The Weather Channel is an insult to its roots and should just close up shop now.
