Obama To Hold Secret Transparent Public Privacy Debate In Private

President Obama’s Friday meeting with a newly reformed privacy watchdog panel will take place behind the closed doors of the White House Situation Room, according to administration officials.

It’s the president’s first sit-down with the recently constituted and little-known Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, created nearly a decade ago but dormant for the entirety of the Obama presidency.

White House spokesman Jay Carney on Friday reiterated that the president believes it’s vital to have a public debate about how to balance the respect for privacy rights with national security, and said the rebirth of the privacy board will play an important role as that conversation unfolds.

Barring US companies from processing data from the EU unless they sign contracts with stiff penalties will have a much more profound on privacy than Obama’s private jabber club.

  2. In the Situation Room…hmm…apparently, his meeting with that Board is a crisis situation. I am reminded of “Dr. Strangelove” and “The Mouse That Roared”, two ’60’s movies that poked fun at Presidential-level paranoia. He said just a day or two ago that you can’t blame him if you haven’t sat in the Situation Room, as he has; so he is using it the same way academic scientists use “peer-review”, as a filter, or rabbit’s foot, to ward off all criticism (in his fevered mind, at least).

Obama’s idea of debate usually involves a lapdog press running interference. (Cough, Candy Crowley)

Does anyone know who is on this Board?

Sorry- found it in the add-on.
