Looks like Mikey did his nature trick on it in 1998, splicing artificially inflated numbers onto the graph creating a hockey stick. Then they came crashing down when reality set in – the alarmists future. Al gore sold before the bottom dropped completely out.
Specifically that is the NASDAQ, but the NYSE Dow would look very similar. And we still have not recovered to the highs of 5000 on the NASDAQ.

Today we have a combination Nixon+Carter II.
The public support for manned space flight was declining under Clinton-Gore. That’s when NASA needed a new cause. I suspect James Hansen and Al Gore hatched “global warming” then.
“Climate change” serves as a permanent boogeyman as the public grows tired of successive foreign conflicts. A straw man for globalists to work in tandem together.
It would be fine if they just focused on valid pollution and environmental preservation. But those are only local and regional problems. Globalists always need a worldwide boogeyman.
In the late 80s Hansen was NASA’s hero because he generated more funding for research.
