Lefties say that “military weapons of war” (self-reloading rifles) don’t belong in civilian hands.
If you point out that 99.9999% of these rifles are never used in a crime, and are an excellent deterrent against both crime and tyranny, they then claim that “your stupid little gun toys are no match for military weapons.”
What a bunch of morons we are dealing with. Not only are they stupid, but they welcome tyranny.

It should be noted that American civilians had small arms superior to our military’s for 150 years, until 1936, with the military’s adoption of the M1 Garand.
Some examples:
– In the later 1800s, civilians had Winchester repeaters, while the army had single-shot Trapdoor
Springfields.
– In the early 1900s, to 1936, civilians had Remington auto-loading rifles, while the army had bolt
action Springfields, M1903 and M1917.
And Custer found out the hard way, too:
“…It is well-known that Custer’s men each brought a trapdoor Springfield and a Colt .45 to the Little Bighorn that June day in 1876…”
But the Indians had a wider variety in use:
“…There were 2,361 cartridges, cases and bullets recovered from the entire battlefield, which reportedly came from 45 different firearms types (including the Army Springfields and Colts, of course) and represented at least 371 individual guns. The evidence indicated that the Indians used Sharps, Smith & Wessons, Evans, Henrys, Winchesters, Remingtons, Ballards, Maynards, Starrs, Spencers, Enfields and Forehand & Wadworths, as well as Colts and Springfields of other calibers. There was evidence of 69 individual Army Springfields on Custer’s Field (the square-mile section where Custer’s five companies died), but there was also evidence of 62 Indian .44-caliber Henry repeaters and 27 Sharps .50-caliber weapons. In all, on Custer’s Field there was evidence of at least 134 Indian firearms versus 81 for the soldiers. It appears that the Army was outgunned as well as outnumbered…”

The bigger problem was not that the troopers were using single shot breachloaders, but that the model Springfield they were using, combined with the spun wire cartridges, had a high frequency of extraction failures. The base of the cartridge would tear away, leaving the carbine with a case jam. The shooter could not reload until clearing the remainder of the cartridge case from the breach. Something rather difficult to do without tools. This may explain why a large number of Custer’s men were found strewn all along the ridge. Rather then maintaining a defensive formation, they tried to escape to high ground when their weapons jammed.
Still, it was only a contributing cause. The primary cause of the defeat was Custer’s ineptitude that day as a commander.

I had some people give me that same argument just a few weeks ago. “Well, if you think that civilians with rifles can stop an army tank or a fighter plane, you are just wrong!”
My reply was, “Rifles were never meant to stop tanks and fighter planes. They are designed to kill the driver or the pilot when he gets out.” I could have added “and the people who support disarming whole populations” but I did not do so.
My AR15 chambered in 6.5mm Grendel Will out shoot the government’s 5.56mm by a long way, so my toy is much better than theirs. Alas, the military often follows rather than leads.

There are no long term examples of a popular revolution coming from the Left side of the political spectrum that did not end badly with a dictatorship coming from the Right. Once this plays out in America the lefties will be thinking the gods of war for the Second Amendment. In other words the Leftist want to be in control of every aspect of your life. The lefts’ Freudian view of themselves makes firearms in private hands a problem for Freudian pols like Obama. Our President is intent on graduating from eavesdropping on your phone conversations, to peeping into your kitchen and bedroom windows and finally the Obama Government wants to become your very own public Homeowners Association with all the finger pointing, informing, spying, prying, and petty peevishness that comes with that.
