July 21, 1901 : Hottest Day In US History?

On July 21 1901,  seventy-seven percent of the US was over 90F, thirty-six percent was over 100F, and two percent was over 110F

In the map below, orange states were over 90F, red states were over 100F, and pink states were over 110F on July 21, 1901.  (California and Nevada were likely over 100F too, but there are no records in the USHCN database for that day.)

CO2 was below 300 PPM, and Hansen says that heatwaves were impossible at that time.

We conclude that extreme heat waves, such as that in Texas and Oklahoma in 2011 and Moscow in 2010, were “caused” by global warming, because their likelihood was negligible prior to the recent rapid global warming.

– James Hansen (world’s best climate scientist)

US Politics | AMERICAblog News: Quarter to half of species on earth may die from global warming

People who lived at the time probably would have said that Hansen has no idea what he is talking about.

This heatwave was extremely inconvenient for climate alarmists, so NCDC/USHCN has tried to eliminate it by subtracting an amazing 2.5 degrees from reported July, 1901 temperatures. The graph below shows the difference between NCDC reported temperatures and raw USHCN temperatures.

The USHCN communists and their fellow followers need to occupy prison-cell space with Gyro Jerry, so they can truly appreciate the benefit of “Preparation H” (Relief for some sore assholes).

I realize Darryl Issa has his hands full in the Gummint Oversight committee, but fercryinoutloud!!, can’t there be another R committee chairman to hold hearings on this kind of gummint fraud??

The Obama-adoring press may not cover it, but at least some feet need to be held close to the fire for a bit. Who knows who might get nervous and start to tell tales “outside the Team”

I despair that many people are succumbing to “outrage overload” with this criminal gang. They dispense scandalous behavior from a fire-hose – – and so far, many on the right have just thrown up their hands and said “How can we keep track of all of this sh*t all the time??!!?”

    We have to start somewhere

  3. Shazaam says:

They can alter the data in their models. Fortunately, they cannot alter all those historical news reports.

Otherwise, their fraud would be complete.

There was a good reason we made fun of the weather forecasters when I was a kid. You could always be certain that there was a 90+% chance they would be wrong for the 24 hour forecast.

Why anyone, anywhere considers the climate models these bozo’s cooked-up to be any better than the 24 hour forecast is beyond me. Maybe it’s the mystique of a “computer model”, maybe the progressives are all taking feel-good pharmaceuticals.

You would think any climate scientist worthy of the title would be screaming about the massive fraud in “adjusting”/”fudging”/faking the historical data to make the climate models “work”/”generate the desired results”.

I say take away ALL of the government funding for all climate modeling efforts. If they cannot deal with reality (as in the historical data as recorded), then give them some monopoly money (it’s just as real as their “adjusted” data) to fund their fraudulent modeling.

Quacks, the modern “climate scientists” are all quacks. And they truly deserve to be the butt of all jokes about weather forecast inaccuracy in the future. They’ve earned the status as jokes. Yet with all the money they’ve wasted, the joke is on the tax-payers.

Yes, Shazaam, it’s insane. All kinds of adjustment and manipulations that always benefit the fear mongers. Further, we have the wholesale retirement of rural temperature stations (circa 1993), and the urban heat effect compounded by countless documented (as by wuwt) cases of the temp gauges being placed in close proximity to acute heat sources. Yet this is the “data” they use to show that there has been runaway hockey stick warming since around 1900.
One of the things I look at that is inconsistent with the image presented by their data is the world record high temp…. which was set in 1913. After 100 years of runaway warming, that old record should have been broken over and over again. But no. That, and the things like this that Steven is constantly highlighting, suggests that there’s been truly minimal warming, if even that.

    Negligible heat waves in Russia?
    Like this?
    GREAT HEAT WAVE.
A RUSSIAN CALAMITY. FARMS AND ORCHARDS WITHERED.

LONDON, Monday. — The crops, meadows, and orchards in Southern Russia have been withered by a prolonged heat wave.

    or this?
HEAT IN RUSSIA. GREAT FOREST FIRES.
    ST. PETERSBURG, July 15.
The greatest continuous heat for half a century is being experienced in the north of Russia, and monster forest fires are burning in every direction. The effect of the drought on the crops is causing much anxiety.

And lol, I thought I was seeing double!
One thing I get the strong impression is that Russia & Russians, like Putin, are not thrilled at all with the agw bs & the Agenda 21 idiocy & the warmist scare mongering loons throughout western Europe & America.

      • Ivan says:

What was Napoleon’s famous quote? “‘Never interfere with an enemy while he’s in the process of destroying himself.” I would imagine that Putin and those in charge in Russia are watching with a sense of amused anticipation. After all, if the west is determined to pursue this insane course of ritualistic economic suicide, why should the Russians be overly concerned? All they have to do is sit back and wait a few more years, and they will get to pick up all the pieces without firing a shot – or spending a rouble.

  7. It’s ironic that heere in Melbourne July 1901 was the coolest month on record, with an average maximum of 11.1 degrees Celsius or 52.01 degrees Fahrenheit and a minimum of 4.1 Celsius or 39.4 Fahrenheit.

Early in the month one day did not get above 4.4 degrees Celsius, which is by a full 2.3 degrees the coolest maximum we have ever had! that would mean that in placed like daylesford the maximum did not get above freezing all day. In fact, snow was reported as far north as the Clark Range in tropical Queensland!

Whilst July 1901 is no longer the hottest month on record over the contiguous US, it probably still has the most population-weighted cooling degree days, since the extreme heat was in more highly populated areas than in the hot Julies of the 1930s and since 2000, or in August 1983. In fact, as with the cold of January 1977, it was centred right over the Ohio Valley.
