Having completed an epic 0% of the Northwest Passage (red line above) our intrepid rowers are blocked by ice and unfavorable winds.
This expedition was made possible by “climate change” through a route which was “once dominated by ice.”
A rowboat expedition to the Arctic made possible by climate change | Environment | guardian.co.uk
No really. We shouldn’t laugh.
Yes…it may be submissive ice, rather than dominating.
Twisted minds bring a twisted adventure!
The entertainment factor is quite spectacular:)
Is some kind of madness, isn’t it? The AGW followers are delusional.
The Rowing Teams latest announcement on the mainstream last first site has them on the beach again spotting Beluga whales and ice floes coming at them on a calm still day. They are running out of time.
The comments on the Guardian are enough to gag a maggot off a gut wagon.
The rowers got their headlines.
I will elaborate. A few days ago, I did some internet searching to see how long it takes to walk across America. I found many stories of people’s plans. Standard headline: “X is going to walk across America to bring attention to Y. He expects it to take Z days.”
I found virtually no reports of people actually walking across America. I assume most failed. But those who succeeded raised few headlines.
Our rowers have brought attention to the loss of ice in the Arctic [sic]. They have SUCCEEDED. We can hoot and holler, but they got what they set out to get. Headlines.
… and possibly loose their lives? Look this,
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2317539/British-explorer-Philip-Goodeve-Docker-freezes-death-Arctic-trek-friends.html
If they had honor.
Ahhh yes. The Waldo Expedition.
So much ice, so little time.
The Rowing Team are alerting the world to the lack of “ice” in the Arctic. Perhaps some warmists can organise a crystal meth air drop to the Rowing Team! They need it to increase their rowing “speed” to make it through in the next 4 weeks.
Looks like they are hunkered down, waiting for it to melt or for the wind to start blowing out of the south.
It would be absurd to attempt to continue. They can’t possibly complete the journey and if they proceed will become trapped by ice for the winter sometime in the next eight weeks.
Their whole “journey” is absurd.
It is so great to see Reggie and his buddies go down in flames. After all his pompous, know it all trash talk, Reggie got what he deserved.
There excuse was priceless. Basically, it was too cold because it is too hot. And if you disgree, you are still a stinking denier, even though we made total fools of ourselves.
Where are they getting their food and water from?
they bought hazelnut coffee creamer in Tux….I’m not kidding
Starbucks Hypothesis?
LOL:
They put a satphone order in for an express delivery of Starbucks to be helicoptered in daily. Followed by an order of McD’s. 🙂
The grauniad will still hail it as a success by hook or by crook. Mostly crooked.
How useful would a shotgun be against a polar bear? Serious question.
People in Africa use shotguns to kill elephants.
Loaded with sabot shotgun cartridges/bullets I think rather than the normal lead shot.
depends on the load.
A 12 gauge with 2.75″ / 3/4 Oz. slugs is not a preferred means of defense.
If you hit the bear in any of its large bone structures, the animal will be pissed.
Your best defense is a 10 gauge with 3.5″ slugs (speaking from experience).
Personally I would go with a ported .460 weatherby with 500gr FMJ bullets. That or a custom .50 cal sniper rifle with a shortened barrel and 750 gr slugs. Never did understand why they won’t allow manpads.
The old 1.75 ounce slug is quite the mass, but indeed the.460 & 50 Cal would offer great comfort.
The 444 Marlin is also a nice addition:)
I know a guy who killed one with a 22.
Depends where you put the bullet.
I’ve also heard of folks who just annoyed brown bears with .22’s.
.45 Colt, 325gr bullet, ~1300 fps AND someone who runs slower than I
A Brilliant success by any Liberal measure.
Failure is a resume enhancer to a liberal/democrat.
If they haven’t started eating their dead they haven’t even tried! It’s gonna make a terrible movie.
Heh. Maybe they’ve decided climate change isn’t really that extreme.
They could continue until they need to utilize “The Custom of the Sea”, and then one of them may have the material for a movie.
Donald Crowhurst?
And finally the penny drops for the rowers. “This global warming stuff…..we’ve been had”
Of course not.
They are blaming the excess cold and ice on Global Warming…see a few posts down…
These guys are still early into the first quarter of their game. They now realize that their opponent is bigger, stronger and faster than they had imagined. They’ve been outscored decisively but they are not ready to give up. The spectators all see that the game is lost; they know who will win. But the competitors are steeling themselves to try harder–give it 110%. They will recognize the game is lost at halftime ~Aug 20th. They will finish at Kuglutuk, get a plane out of town and hail themselves as successful record holders for having rowed farther than last years crew.
Nice analysis. I would put a small amount of money on it!!! 8>)
The weasels are on the move again, and looking for success-:)
I think they should man up and keep trying. They have a few more weeks to minimum ice
Also, the consensus is in on sea level rise:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/15/there_is_no_scientific_consensus_on_sealevel_rise_say_scientists/
They really shouldn’t get too down on themselves. There’s many other challenging possibilities. How ’bout Pamplona? I believe anyone has of yet successfully ‘Rowed with the Bulls.’
No, they are lined up to do the Iditarod first, their warmist handlers have told them that the route is slushy and wet because of global warming, so these guys are going to row the route.
After that they are crossing the Grand Canyon in a row boat strapped to a high line to highlight rising sea levels.
The beauty of unnatural selection, these guys witness global warming everywhere they go.
🙂
My bet is they’ll get to Cambridge Bay, no further.
Remember these are the people who think that the climate of the planet can be managed by an incompetent government bureaucracy. They probably thought that their good intentions alone would open the passage.
I wonder how the sponsors feel about being scammed by these nincompoops.
The sponsors are all true believers.
How about a lottery pool to see how far they get?
Great idea!
I pick Cambridge Bay, on the Finlayson Islands.
Ooops. I just saw Billy Liar already picked it. Sorry.
Where is the news about their stopping?
I see they plotted one new location today and are no longer on shore. Moved another two entire kilometers. Now they’re about 0.6 km from shore. No location report in the past 5 hours tho’. Tuk weather has winds 11 mph from the east. current temperature 55F.
Umm, wasn’t that special built boat able to submerge and go under the ice?!?!?!
Only Russians would have come up with this idea.

I’d prefer this-

Looks like a lot more fun.
