The large mass of multi-year ice in the Beaufort Sea is getting pushed right into the rower’s planned path.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Maybe they can make the journey suspended underneath a helicopter, rowing that hot desert, blowtorch air for all they are worth.
It would be a massive cheat. Yet none of the media would object. They don’t bat an eye at the massive GISS adjustments, so you can be sure they’d turn a blind eye to a helicopter assist.
Just to get ’em past the un-safe “rotten” slushy ice….
Their facebook page shows them having made it to Tuk, even though the GPS tracker shows them still miles away. Maybe they walked in.
I think you’re right Richard. Maybe they walked to Tuk to buy an axe so they can put a hole in their boat.
I just looked at the afternoon forecast for Tuk and winds are expected to be from the NNW at 7-8 mph, temperature upper 30s. No movement today will likely mean reality is starting to set in.
Someone in Tuktoyaktuk posted a photo of them arriving so they got there by boat somehow.

Actually, that photo is from someone with their Sponsor, I think. It would be wise to get independent confirmation.
Independent confirmation of what? That the boats in Tuk?
Their picture in Tuktoyaktuk shows another boat nearby. http://ow.ly/i/2ACbY
Was that their tow? Convenient that the GPS tracker was off.
Very good point Doug … look at the photo carefully – no smiles to be seen. I wonder why 😉

I reposted your link and it should be a better picture that is panoramic but I don’t know if it will work. Tuk looks like the arsehole of the universe.
About their tracker. From the provider’s website it seems like the tracker will either do an update every 10 minutes for 24 hours then has to be prompted to start broadcasting the cycle again, or you can do a manual location updates. Also it seems like you can selectively share only certain points out of the track.
Many of the points are at 10 minute intervals but not a full 24 hours. Others are random times. Since they were sitting around for two days, I’d guess they’ll not start broadcasting updates until they’re on the move again.
Wind forecast 5 pm tuk time until midnight is from NNW at 7 mph dropping to 5 mph from the NW. Temperature still in mid 30s. No precipitation in sight.
Those guys are starting to look depressed.
With a 7 to 5 mph wind they had better get on their horse and get rowing. The depression on their faces suggests they are just realizing the enormity of the task they face & the lack of Starbucks up there 😉
