      I read from the top:

      By Paul Beckwith

On March 23, 2013, I made the following prediction:

“For the record—I do not think that any sea ice will survive this summer. An event unprecedented in human history is today, this very moment, transpiring in the Arctic Ocean.

This is why they say sceptics are more knowledgeable about the climate than Warmists. They just make stuff up – and they call us anti-science. Well here is the science.

      Abstract
We therefore conclude that for a priod in the Early Holocene, probably for a millenium or more, the Arctic Ocean was free of sea ice at least for shorter periods in the summer. This may serve as an analogue to the predicted “greenhouse situation” expected to appear within our century.

      Abstract
Arctic sea ice cover was strongly reduced during most of the early Holocene and there appear to have been periods of ice free summers in the central Arctic Ocean. This has important consequences for our understanding of the recent trend of declining sea ice, and calls for further research on causal links between Arctic climate and sea ice.

The Early Twentieth-Century Warming in the Arctic—A Possible Mechanism

The huge warming of the Arctic that started in the early 1920s and lasted for almost two decades is one of the most spectacular climate events of the twentieth century. During the peak period 1930–40, the annually averaged temperature anomaly for the area 60°–90°N amounted to some 1.7°C…..

        Abstract
The regime shift of the 1920s and 1930s in the North Atlantic
During the 1920s and 1930s, there was a dramatic warming of the northern North Atlantic Ocean. Warmer-than-normal sea temperatures, reduced sea ice conditions and enhanced Atlantic inflow in northern regions continued through to the 1950s and 1960s, with the timing of the decline to colder temperatures varying with location. Ecosystem changes associated with the warm period included a general northward movement of fish……

And what about this from 1965?

          H.H. Lamb1965
The early medieval warm epoch and its sequel

The Arctic pack ice was so much less extensive than in recent times that appearances of drift ice near Iceland and Greenland south of 70[deg] N, were apparently rare in the 10th century and unknown between 1020 and 1194, when a rapid increase of frequency caused a permanent change of shipping routes. Brooks suggested that the Arctic Ocean became ice-free in the summers of this epoch, as in the Climatic Optimum; but it seems more probable that there was some ‘permanent’ ice, limited to areas north of 80[deg] N….”

  1. James Anderson says:

How can you stand to read his blog? He is mentally ill.

  2. DGP says:

As far as I can tell, the first 10,900 years were brutal and life was short. Then we started using fossil fuels and our quality of life improved dramatically. I could be wrong, maybe some guy sitting an air conditioned office tying on a computer knows better.

  3. Okie says:

I agree with the diagnosis of mental illness. He will not accept evidence of sea ice even if he sleeps on it and freezes to death.

  4. Fred from Canuckistan says:

Nobody does stupid like an eco greenie nutter and this buffoon is a pack leading hysteric.

Let’s hope the rowers don’t actually believe anything that he says or forecasts because they could end up real dead, real fast.

They have no idea how unforgiving and brutal the Arctic can be, how fast it can kill humans, especially clueless ones with a righteous cause.

  5. Gamecock says:

Mr. Beckwith doesn’t splain why I should care if the Arctic ice melts. I wasn’t planning to go look at it, anyway.

  6. juergenuie says:

Maybe that’s number 5 on the boat.

  7. Whoa. What’s the problem here? President Obama release his Climate Action Plan. Isn’t the global warming problem essentially solved?

  8. QV says:

“Paul Beckwith is a Ph.D. student with the laboratory for paleoclimatology and climatology, department of geography, University of Ottawa.”

He’s got a lot to learn, hasn’t he?

  9. Glacierman says:

    He is simply after donations.

  10. gator69 says:

If things are do dire, why is this fool grinning?

  11. eco-geek says:

He loves his mother or something like that…..

  12. The sort of guy who would visit the Arctic for a Vacation so he can hand feed the polar bears.

  13. Ira says:

climate has been stable for 11,000 years…
    this guy is nuts.

  14. Jeff says:

“Paul Beckwith is a Ph.D. student with the laboratory for paleoclimatology and climatology, department of geography, University of Ottawa.”

In Northern Ireland we have a nice term for such people; an educated idiot

  15. B.C. says:

Apparently he’s never seen a satellite loop of the Arctic ice in constant, perfectly natural motion. Reggie better crank up his Blowtorch o’ Doom to APOCALYPSE setting over the next couple of weeks or this moron is going to look like an even bigger buffoon than he’s already proven to be.

  16. J. Fox says:

Dr. Beckwith, here is your stupid Red Neck sign.

  17. Disillusioned says:

He has multiple computer screens and lots of neat graphics; he must know what he’s talking about. http://www.sierraclub.ca/en/EF-5

    • Olaf Koenders says:

Yes – in years gone by “learned” professors giving an interview used to have a full bookshelf behind them to give the illusion of expertise. But back then I reckon it was true.

  18. Latitude says:

“the entire sea ice sheet is on the move”

    …really

  19. Disillusioned says:

If you’re a CO2-centric warm-earther and you don’t have an answer, just make stuff up–be scary and make it sound like you know what you’re talking about. Look at the gullible fool who thanked this buffoon for his fairytale reasoning behind why Sandy (hardly a Frankenstorm) was supposedly such a big bad wolf: http://www.sierraclub.ca/en/blog/paul-beckwith/hold-folks%E2%80%A6-times-they-are-changin%E2%80%99

Beckwith didn’t even bother replying to his follower’s follow-up query.

  20. Streetcred says:

I’ll wager that Beckwith now wishes that he could “disappear” like that. What a prat.

  21. Mike D says:

I’m sure he’ll update his blog in September 2013 after we see what August 2013 is like.

  22. Robertv says:

Dangerous lunatics want to green Greenland and make the ice disappear by digging.

  23. Dave says:

I read his other article where he says “Meteorology 101 shows us this change (reduction) in the temperature differential slows west-to-east winds and jet streams. And as fast jet streams slow, they become much wavier and travel much more north and south”. How does a smaller temperature differential lead to more unstable jet stream? I would figure a larger temperature differential would do this. If there were a smaller differential there would be fewer pressure differences and less energy for storms.

  24. SMS says:

    Do PHD’s have “do-overs”?

  25. John Q. Galt says:

He looks kinda old for a student.

  26. Dave says:

Fox News radio was just on rambling about the North Pole becoming ice free and how all the seals and polar bears will suffer. But there will be cruises and shipping lanes!

  27. Scarface says:

I followed the link to his blog.
He is a scary ice cracker.

  28. Stubben says:

Can we, somehow, help get dr. Beckwith in touch with the rower team for him to get some hunch of reality?
