We have a large percentage of people in the US who have never experienced any actual adversity, so they imagine that having to walk in warm air for 30 seconds between their air conditioned car and their office is a form of extreme suffering – unprecedented in human history. If their street fills with water after a rain, it is a biblical flood, and McDonald’s closing early is an unprecedented famine.
By wrecking the US energy infrastructure and throwing away their freedoms, they will become their own teachers.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
– George Santayana
They wouldn’t have much to text each other about if they didn’t think like that, now would they? We old people just don’t understand…
Unfortunately your president is part of this group.
“…Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it…”
Which is why I’ve “paraphrased” this comment as follows:
Those who cannot remember the extreme weather events of the past are condemned to say that all current extreme weather events are unprecedented.
Those who hide the past intend to to repeat it.
