They could be facing a major storm surge with huge blocks of ice later in the week.
There is some high ground, but no shelter from the wind and snow.

They will be able to experience something like this

4-12°C below normal 850mb temp anomalies for the next 10 days over the high arctic.
That ice ain’t going anywhere.
The high arctic July blizzard will hardly be mentioned next week. The stenographers know of this impending storm; they’re already crafting their narratives in anticipatory zeal, waiting, hoping, for this storm to shatter the arctic ice cover. But since this anomalously cold summer snowstorm will fail to do so if it is mentioned at all it will be in the context of what last year’s storm did to the icepack and how scientists say more of the 2012-type storms are expected in the future and so on and so forth. Even through, from a meteorological standpoint, the formation of this year’s storm and last year’s storm will be borne of two completely differing synoptic setups – cyclogenesis doesn’t always occur the same way.
Instead the media will likely focus in on that one area of France where 850mb temps are forecast to be 8°C above normal to espouse the global warming induced threat of European heat waves and compare it to the 2003 heat wave, even though there will be no comparison.
What are the odds this turns into a rescue mission; putting the lives of CCG/USCG members at risk? Maybe the rowers should camp out where they’re at and have another go at it again next year.
No worries. Reggie’s fearless Brawndo Blowhard Blowtorch will vaporize whatever small bits of rotten ice that haven’t yet melted and have a remote possibility to threaten to block the rowing team’s path.
That is, if Reggie can find his matches the light his blowtorch.
Otherwise, the rowing team might be in trouble.
Where’s Reggie?
Reggie was involved in a fudge packing “incident” and his blowtorch is not working.
You mean Reggie’s Brawndo Blowhard Blowtorch has packed it in???
That certainly must have been a dark day for the rowing team.

I was reading Reggie on another blog and he (and Jim) claim to have been banned by Steven. Whether this is true or not only Steven could answer.
I prefer to think Reggie is off somewhere sulking at the lack of easy sailing for his Team Glo-bull Warming rowers.
Please don’t block Reggie! His temper tantrums are well worth the price of admission.
I just assumed that Reggie was silent because even he could see that he looked like Baghdad Bob. Soon, no self respecting lunatic will be able to stand behind AGW and the whole thing will fall apart.
Baghdad Reggie is cooking up the “mother of all” blowtorches!!
Reggie and the “Ministry of Truth” intended to expound in depth about how the Brawndo Blowhard Blowtorch will vaporize every last scrap of Arctic ice in the rowers’ path.
However, it seems the Blowtorch has packed it in and malfunctioned horribly. Possibly creating ice where there should be nothing but clear melt-water.
A dark day indeed for the “Ministry of Truth”.
