Today’s Progress

Big day today.

ScreenHunter_344 Jul. 28 18.07

The rowers are about 13 km (as the crow flies) away from where they started today, and about 5km further away from Pond Inlet than they were this morning.

Only 2,000 km left to go!

Heh, with steps like that they’ll be reaching Pond Inlet from the east maybe next decade.

  2. Anto says:

13km per day, 2,000km to go. If they could keep that up (which they can’t, obviously), they might make it for the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

  3. Latitude says:

Looks like they got in about 5-6 hours of rowing today…..that’s not going to cut it!

  4. At some point the Coast Guard will call them and tell them they had better cease and desist, or they will have to pay for their rescue.

They make the rowers look like wimps to the nth degree.

    From their FAQ:
Q: What distance will you travel each day (approx)? What does that work out to per member?
A: Good days maybe 100 km. Bad days 0 km. Average probably 40-50 km per day.

Q: How many hours per day will the team row? How will you schedule rowing shifts?
A: We will try to row 24 hr/day when we can, rotating shifts of 4hrs on/off and 2 hrs on/off between the 4 members of the team. Only 2 people row at a given time so we can move continuously.

From the satellite view it looks like they are camping out on yet another beach.
Screw that 24 rowing in shifts !

3 weeks living in those thermal wet suits without a bath. I wonder if the problem leading to those short rowing stretches is that the Arctic Jewel doesn’t have enough internal ventilation to handle the “fragrance” when the rowers get heated.

Bet it get’s fragrant enough to chase a maggot off a corpse in there. So they have to stop to get some air. And rest. And wait for the tide to come in. And…..

  8. SMS says:

They started their adventure on July 5th. They are now at the end of day 24; and how far have they gotten? Not too damn far. (unless you count the circles and detours to avoid open water) They decided to start their adventure at the McKenzie River instead of open ocean just to get this far. That’s like claiming you are going to run a Marathon and then start your race at the 20 mile marker. Even before they started their adventure they had already prostituted the reason they gave for making asses of themselves.

  9. Chewer says:

If these rowers have any inner demons, the “Cape Parry Bird Sanctuary” will be the point where they can face them!

The kayak team (http://www.revedeglace.ca/) has found a shortcut. I can’t see any water path in Google Earth.

    Still, they crossed from:

Is this not a road close to that point?
