According to the most bloated alarmist numbers, sea level is currently rising 3 mm/year. But from 1930 to 1948, sea level rose almost 9 mm/ year.
Hansen says that temperatures were much colder then, during that time when glaciers were melting three times faster than they are now.
Disclaimer : If you ever get the impression that global warming is the biggest scam in scientific history, you are correct.
But wait, there’s another little gem in that 1960 article.
Robert Cushman Murphy reported in 1960 during the Isaiah Bowman Memorial lecture at the American Geographical Society that temperatures from 1860 to 1960 in the US had increased by 3 F, or 1.7 C. That is a temperature trend of 0.17 C/decade.
Surprisingly, this is three times faster than the USHCN fully adjusted trend from 1960 to 2013, of 0.5 F total, or about 0.05 C/decade.
CO2 emissions have dramatically slowed the rate of natural warming in the U.S. since the 1960’s.
Who knew?
And at the bottom of column 2, p. 1453, “‘If this goes on, the Arctic Ocean will be open the year-round’ before the close of the twentieth century.” The point is not that the prediction was wrong that there would be no Arctic ice in winter by 1999, but that melting occurred at faster rates long before AGW was blamed.
