Another Massive Fail By James Hansen

In 1986, Hansen predicted a large increase in hot days in Washington DC

Last month, a Government scientist predicted that the number of days here on which the maximum tempertaure exceeds 100 degrees might just climb from one day a year, on average, to 12 days a year by the year 2050, and that the number of nights in which the temperature does not fall below 80 degrees might leap from one a year to 19.

The scientist, Dr. James E. Hansen, a climatologist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, describing a study of the global phenomenon of ”the greenhouse effect,” told a Senate subcommittee that such temperature changes ”may significantly affect the climactic environment for the general population.”

The exact opposite has happened. The have only been three days over 100 degrees this century.

The cold this year is beating last winter which came fast and furious, too. Day after day below freezing, I still haven’t chopped all my firewood up and it is covered with tarps so the ice storms don’t make it all into one big lump…as happened in the 1970s when we had similar winters.

I see in the forecasts one day this week it will be above freezing at noon and no blizzards so I might be able to chop up another cord or two. Poor Buffalo! They are buried in snow and the warmists can’t even apologize for this. Much less, provide aid and comfort.

Note that Obama hasn’t mentioned Buffalo even once this week.

One day people will come to the conclusion that guy hasn’t a clue! Everything he has come out with has turned to sand. His net contribution to the world is, nothing.

While I’m here, made a little snippet from the WFT’s website.
    http://woodfortrees.org/plot/esrl-co2/from:1996.25/every:12/detrend:35.1/plot/esrl-co2/from:1996.75/every:12/detrend:35.1/plot/esrl-co2/from:1996/detrend:35.1/trend/plot/hadsst2sh/from:1996/mean:12/offset:60/scale:6

It is the recent hiatus with max and mins on CO2. the flat line proves the mean detrend line and the middle wriggly is Southern sea surface temperatures. Using land only or Northern sea temps do not match CO2 so well.

We can see a basic phase relationship proving CO2 is merely the canary in the mine. Also a more interesting relationship with CO2’s high and low points. Ocean warming quickly emits CO2 but absorption tends to lag more.

141 year old cold weather record falls in Jacksonville. 24 degrees breaks old record of 30 set in 1873!

Thursday morning not only broke an “ancient” record from 1873, but we also dropped to the second coldest temperature ever recorded in the month of November in Jacksonville.

According to the National Weather Service, for the second morning in a row, Jacksonville set a new cold weather record. Thursday mornings temperature dropped to a bone chilling 24 degrees breaking the old record of 30 degrees set in 1873.

[comment: It’s one thing to have a colder than normal morning temperature, but could someone explain to me how a 131 year old cold temperature record can be broken if the Earth has warmed on average 1.5 – 2 degrees F during that time period?]

    • David says:

And I wonder what did humans do to cause the 1873 cold? Horse and buggy..maybe horse farts..

If it weren’t for Global Warming’s extra 2°F it would have been only 22°F Thursday morning!

I used to live on the West Side of Jax. Coldest I have ever been is there. A damp wind off the ocean and air temperature in the low 30’s it was bone chilling.

    • B says:

You forgot to “correct” the data. The 1873 temperature was really 26 degrees and yesterday’s was 28 degrees.

How about a rampant circumpolar vortex.

Hansen is of course not history’s first “Hansen” (narcissistic ego driven science as defined by politics). Anyone ever heard of Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680)? Here’s a NY Times article/review on a book written about him. Which also shows that the NYT’s progressive luv of frauds and charlatans isn’t limited to the 20th/21st centurys….

    • Don says:

The alleged book review is more a hit piece by someone who is likely a full fledged believer in AGW. If I were the author of that book I would be most unhappy with the triteness of the review.

This part is interesting however, and Kircher deserves more looking into, and less scorn, because of this:

“He was a master of optical illusions, a cryptographer, an early proponent of a universal symbolic language and arguably the first person to discover the germ theory of disease, possibly even the first person to ever use a microscope.”

“Big-League Climatologists” Predict Several Degrees Warming And Doom By The Year 2000:

    June 24, 1986:

The conclusion, conveyed with great authority by several big-league climatologists from government and private research organizations, is terrible: by the year 2000, the atmosphere and weather will grow warmer by several degrees and life – animal, plant, human – will be threatened.

EARTH’S CLIMATIC CRISIS EXAMINED BY ‘NOVA’ – NYTimes.com

Well, look outside, feel the freeze, there’s been essentially near zero warming since 1986, and yet the “experts” continue to recycle the same fear mongering baloney about how in three decades we are all going to be boiling to death.

“Climate change is real.. It’s time to defer to the experts.” -Chris Christie

    • Andy DC says:

Why defer to “experts” if they are always wrong. Would you defer to a financial advisor that has been wrong far more than right over the last 30 years?

  7. De Paus says:

Sorry guys, but now you are making a big mistake. You refer to the real world, to the truth. Of course, global warming has “paused” now for over 18 years, the whole CAGW thing is one big haox. But most people don’t see reality. They live in a fantasy world, they believe everything that is being told by the so-called progressive intellectuals. Since 2012 the northern polar see-ice has grown by more than 50%. Polar bears are thriving, Polar bears do not live on ice shelfs. But that is all the real world. Most people just won’t see this real world. They see articles like this one:
    http://www.worldwildlife.org/stories/polar-bear-population-decline-a-wake-up-call-for-climate-change-action
“Climate change is the main threat facing polar bears. But we also know the effects are being seen around the world. Now is the time we must speak up and demand global action”
The WWF chooses a peculiar timing for their call for action against “climate change”. This is going to be one of the coldest winters in the United States ever. But still the gullible will believe these bogus stories about climate change. As long as a lie is repeated often enough, people will start to believe it. .

Until their electricity fails and they start freezing…. Then the Low Information Voters start rioting and looting. Obama has been priming the hate of that group against whites esp. the police for a while now.

I am really glad I do not live in or near a city.

Actually there is not much that Hansen predicted that has come true or even close to being true.
