President Obama took “executive actions” to keep Canadian oil out of the country, and to keep millions of illegal aliens in the country. Pretty much sums up his depraved thought process.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

The corporations which benefit from the pipeline want a favor from government to compel landowners to submit to this pipeline. What are they doing for Obama in exchange for this favor? This is how politics works in this country. When they buy a few more people in congress they can override the veto. Or they could just purchase the land on the market from willing sellers.
Yes, I understand there are regulatory grants of permission involved, but private property is still the issue.
The issue for the Federal government is not private property. The issue for the federal government is whether to allow a crossing at the Canadian border.
The issue of private property is an important issue, but it is NOT an issue for this pipeline.
It certainly is an issue. People object to it because of what will become of their property. These sort of projects go through government because of private property. Government can use force which makes it cheaper and easier to acquire the land. There have been multiple property rights disputes with regards to this pipeline system, both the proposed part under consideration now and what has already been built.
And let’s for the sake of argument say it’s solely about granting permission to cross the border with a pipeline (like that’s stopped the drug businesses on the southern border from doing so, they just buy land on both sides), the problem is the same, there’s nothing in it for Obama. There’s no gain in it for him.
We can find solace in one irony. His actions are most destructive to his support base.
If property rights were the issue regarding XL (I never heard Obama argue that) the govt could properly use eminent domain to solve that What veto is it you speak of? The Democrats in the Senate just shot down the XL pipeline bill after finally letting it come to a vote in a overtly political move to save Landrieau.
Tim, they knew they didn’t have the votes….they floored it to kill Landrieau
Yeah, she is pretty much toast according to the latest polls.
One positive to come from these actions by the president is that rank-and-file trade union folks (whose jobs will be taken by the newly legal illegal immigrants) are going to quit the Democrat party in droves (which they already effectively did last election). The Dems have been successfully taken over by the hyper left wing green/progressives, backed by big money from government, corporations, Hollywood, and silicon valley. They will NEVER be the same again.
Are immigrants, legal and not, being set up as scapegoats?
Even if we boil it down to permission only, it’s still a property rights question. If they acquire the property through honest dealings it becomes a question of people being able to use their own property as they see fit.
Eminent domain is bigger of the two favors sought. Strip away the window dressing. Government grants permission to operate in the territory and for a project like this, to acquire the land by force. For both of these those in government must receive something. Some consideration.
