In 1616, Pope Paul V weighed in on the important issue of geocentricism. Scientists who refused to admit that Earth was the center of the Universe paid a heavy price.
Four hundred years later Pope Francis has weighed in on the equally important issue of CO2centricism. He understands that 97% of scientists believe CO2 controls all phenomena, and overrides all other physical laws.
Good comparison.
Both views are based on humanity’s perceived self importance. Neither view is proven true.
Arguably, both have been proved falsified.
I guess you believe in aliens, martians, big bang, life from dead matter and other ‘science’ as well….cult theology is not science.
On extraterrestrial life, I see no convincing case one way or the other.
Martians? Sorry, but no.
The Big Bang? Yes, subject as always to revision in the light of new evidence.
Life from “dead matter”? We are confronted with the intractable fact that there was a time when life couldn’t exist – and now it does.

Ah, ah, ah: look up “con” in French. And be wary.
The CO?N-Centric UNiverse
Thanks, Gator!
There is reason to rejoice this New Year! Thanks to Climategate emails that surfaced five years ago, and the persistence of talented bloggers like Steven Goddard (aka Tony Heller), I foresee an end to the sixty-nine year tyrannical rule by Joseph Stalin and his Red Army of NAS/RS geophysicists that fabricated the “Red Matrix of Deceit” about stars and nuclei after forming the UN to “save the world” from annihilation on 24 Oct 1945.
In 2015, I hope to see Mr. Putin and Mr. Obama teaching us how to pray to the Creator, Destroyer and Sustainer of every atom, life and world in the solar system!
Pope Frank is an idiot – I am Catholic and have every right to state that. But your Galileo propaganda wears thin. The Church funded Copernicus who developed heliocentricity and did not publish for 20 years for fear of academics wedded to Ptolemaic universe. It funded and supported Galileo. When asked for proof of heliocentricity he replied ‘tides’. Apparently he hadn’t kept up with 30 yrs of Jesuit astronomical proof that the moon causes tides. It was Kepler – yet another Catholic- who developed the math for elliptical orbits not Galileo. The Church knew 1600 years before Saint Galileo that the earth was a small planet in the Universe. So what. There is a good argument that the Universe is anthropomorphic. The millions of variables to allow life will never exist outside this planet. Period.
Hint; the propaganda of the [un]Enlightenment period should not be taken at face value. Most of the Enlightenment clowns had little new to offer and very little useful to say.
So supporting him meant trial, house arrest and excommunication? Then, almost 4 centuries later, the Catholic Church says “whoops.. just kidding Galileo it was all Enlightenment propaganda and we were really on your side all along, you can get into Heaven now, we made a boo-boo back in 1633.” Really? I don’t doubt there are political biases in the historical account, but that’s kind of a big one. Dan Brown novel?
The fundemental conditions for life would appear abundant even within our own galaxy. Whether that life is as evolved as you is still undetermined.
For Ferdinand
Dogmatic religionists and dogmatic scientists are identical twins, simply hiding under different cloaks of respectability.
Powerful, invisible force fields from the Sun’s pulsar core may have been mislabeled as spiritual forces, but I am aware of no scientific evidence that contradicts basic spiritual teachings of most religions.
Well-state. People being arrogantly dogmatic when they truly know so little about the universe or the original intent of their religious writings or about how climate really works, bring discredit to their respective side of their debates.
Howdo you think the Pope weighed in in 1616?
Wrong.
The Church most certainly did silence him. Kepler, like Martin Luther, was in a liberal part of Germany. I went to school in TĂĽbingen, Germany where Kepler published his revolutionary work and…this is the liberal town back then where Catholic/Protestant battles divided the university town exactly in two!
I remember the two schools there. I went to the Protestant Gymnasium while Catholic girls went to the Catholic Gymnasium. People there told me in all seriousness, how their neighbors killed each other during the 30 Years Wars and still held grudges about that…in 1968!
Ulster/Ireland is divided on religious grounds, it also took 30 years of bloodshed (a generation) before they decided that rubbing along together was preferable to killing each other. Expect the so called Arab Spring to last at least as long. Hopefully nature will end the CO2 spring without adding to the death toll in less than 30 years.
Pope announces CO2 is more powerful than the Almighty. I’ve heard of the God Delusion and now we have the CO2 delusion. The Catholic Church must be long carbon credits to come out with this. Also it distracts from the investigations into peadophiles and prepares the way for acceptance of other left wing dogmatic icons like Same Sex marriage and Abortion.
It’s not the Church I knew as a child.
All they need to do is replace “sin” with “CO2” and they can use their old indulgence paperwork. Update the price list and they’re in business. Don’t forget the Catholic Church is the oldest continually functioning bureaucracy in the world… whether that’s a good or bad thing, not too sure. (I was raised as a Methodist but did date a few Catholic girls back in the day.)
It seems as though nothing is as it was, when I was a child. Look back and compare. What do you see?
I heard the church needs money and by buying into this ‘truth’, instead of selling indulgences, they will be getting their share of ‘carbon credits’.
With the Pope on board, Global Warming Alarm is confirmed as a religious belief.
Those were my first thoughts.
Is this true about Pope Francis? What was his actual words on the subject?
I find it hard to believe that Pope Francis believes humans cause “climate change” on a planetary scale.
http://www.cathnewsusa.com/2014/12/pope-franciss-edict-climate-change-will-anger-deniers-us-churches/
Thanks, so the Pope didn’t actually say anything about humans causing global warming, it’s just more spin from the gardundhogning using quotes from some clerics at a political religious office (“chancellor of the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences”), which seems to me, they were discussing poverty issues more than “climate change”. it’s all just BS.
Please don’t comment if you don’t bother to read the article.
” Climate change, the loss of biodiversity and deforestation are already showing their devastating effects in the great cataclysms we witness,” he said. (The POPE said)
” the pope will publish a rare encyclical on climate change and human ecology. Urging all Catholics to take action on moral and scientific grounds, the document will be sent to the world’s 5,000 Catholic bishops and 400,000 priests, who will distribute it to parishioners.”
I did read it, and the pope didn’t say that, a branch of the catholic church was quoted as saying that. Which is political religious propaganda BS as I said. There are various branches of Catholicism and some are more conservative than others, but you wont hear that from the ‘Grounhogdain’, and besides religion should stay out of trying to influence scientific matters, and the majority of Catholics believe this. It’s obvious the church is being dragged into a political ball game. And we should refrain from judgement until we have read this so called document! and its source, because obviously it’s not from the Pope himself.
Sparks, basically it is ‘yet’. He will be publishing an encyclical on the subject. So until it is actually written, what he says is just speculation. But going by most everything else he has said, it’s quite likely the current quotes aren’t that far off the mark.
Reblogged this on Centinel2012 and commented:
maybe the pope’s should stick to religion and but out of things he has no idea about.
So separation of church and state isn’t necessary when the church spreads the propaganda of the state? I agree with those that feel the Pope shouldn’t get involved in politics.
Will the Catholic Church lose tax exempt status? Could get sticky.
Political Activities
Legislative Activities
Why does this government legislation (in your opinion) assume that the “Catholic Church” does not pay any tax?
Most churches in America have organized as “501c3 tax-exempt religious organizations.” This is a fairly recent trend that has only been going on for about fifty years. Churches were only added to section 501c3 of the tax code in 1954. . We can thank Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson for that. Johnson was no ally of the church. As part of his political agenda, Johnson had it in mind to silence the church and eliminate the significant influence the church had always had on shaping “public policy.”…
That is why this move to get the Catholic Church involved in pimping for Obama could really backfire.
A straight forward answer would have been nice! Do you think that religious freedom makes you except from paying tax? Do you believe a “Holy Church” does not pay tax or something?
Also the Catholic Church is one of the biggest land holders in the USA.
Another interesting tidbit. 2012 Absolutely Appalling…Obama Uses Banks to Control Catholic Church
Huff ‘N Puff: Vatican Bank Account Closed At JP Morgan, Image May Be Hurt
The Catholic Church is also a large business.
Removing the Catholic Church’s Tax free status would really really hurt.
Remove the “Tax free status” of the Catholic Church, It will be able to pay it’s taxes on time… And There will still be freedom of religion.. Go back to worshipping Tax avoiders! who would walk all over you Gail.
Sparks You Specifically asked:
“Why does this government legislation (in your opinion) assume that the “Catholic Church” does not pay any tax?”
And I answered with the IRS Tax code that gives 501c3 ‘Tax Exempt’ status to churches.. Given the size of the Catholic Church (in the millions of dollars category) why ever would I think the Catholic church is NOT 501c3? Heck small churches and even individuals can apply for tax exempt status if they operate ‘not for profit’ entities.
Actually your question does not even make any sense. The Churches were added to section 501c3 (Tax exempt section) of the tax code in 1954 via Johnson’s legislation. (Johnson was a democrat BTW) Prior to that according to my knowledge, the churches in the USA did not pay any tax anyway. Actually Churches do not even have to apply for 501c3 status because the IRS automatically categorizes them as 501c3.
So, YES, the US government assumes the “Catholic Church” does not pay any tax — IF it does not meddle in politics!—- That was the whole point of Johnson’s legislation. To put strings on the tax exemption for churches so they were silenced.
Look at the politics that was happening at the time:
Less than ten years later, in two landmark decisions, Engel v. Vitale (1962) and Abington School District v. Schempp (1963), the US Supreme Court established the ban on prayer in schools. Seems like a darn good reason to make sure the Churches were silent.
Then there was the whole abortion/birth control issue.
Various anti-abortion laws have been on every state statute book since at least 1900. The Supreme Court 1973 decision Roe v. Wade invalidated all state laws banning abortion, and set guidelines for the availability of abortion.
The Second International Congress of Eugenics, was in 1921. Also in 1921 Margaret Sanger, a Fabian Socialist, founded the American Birth Control League, which later became Planned Parenthood. In 1936 North Carolina became the first state to recognize birth control as a public health measure and to provide contraceptive services to indigent mothers through its public health program. North Carolina forcibly sterilized thousands of people between 1929 and 1976. The Eugenics Board of North Carolina (EBNC) was a State Board of the state of North Carolina formed in July 1933 by the North Carolina State Legislature. The Fabians Socialists (Progressives) were very much behind the Eugenics Movement. link
Obviously there was plenty of reasons why Johnson wanted to kick US churches out of the political arena so the Progressive/Fabian Socialist agenda could move forward.
Gail, I don’t think Sparks understands the last 50 years of history where tax law and its unaccountable “enforcement” is the major weapon in the Progressives armory. Social engineering, Progressive style, must first destroy and and all support mechanisms it does not control, like church, family and open education… Obama’s thugocracy makes LBJ and the rest of the New Society look like pikers. Check this out: http://dailycaller.com/2014/12/29/irs-goes-after-nonprofit-hospitals-on-asking-customers-to-pay-bills/
I assume that now it will be OK to steal from church bake sales and lift a few bucks from the collection plate with impunity now.
Either that or he has been sampling to much holiday cheer.
Niel, You are correct about the IRS being a weapon.
One counter argument, Gail.
Jeremiah Wright. Al Sharpton. (I guess that’s 2…)

Bottom line: without CO2, we wouldn’t be here.
1. The Bible doesn’t say anything about the Earth being the center of the Universe.
2. Even if it did, can anyone prove it’s not.
The Bible never did mention Geocentrism, it was simply an accepted notion in Europe and religion loved the narcissistic idea. However, the Bible has no basis in scientific fact whatsoever.
I can prove the Earth is not the centre of the Universe:
Think of the 3-dimensional area the Earth takes up in space, then multiply that by the number of all stars and planets in the Universe in the amount of Earth-sized area they accommodate, then do the same for all the empty space between them.
The chance that Earth is at the centre of the Universe is an-impossibly-massive-number to 1.
However, the Earth is at the centre of our observable Universe. For each passing year we can only see one light-year further into the Universe in every direction. What’s beyond that is yet to be discovered.
We only see three dimensions and assume a 4th. There may be many more. You didn’t prove that the Earth is not the center of the universe. You just said it’s extremely unlikely based on your understanding of the universe.
The fourth is time and it is no more “assumed” than the three spacial dimensions we perceive.
Extremely unlikely would be more than reasonable doubt in court.
Sparks says: “Remove the “Tax free status” of the Catholic Church, It will be able to pay it’s taxes on time… And There will still be freedom of religion.. Go back to worshipping Tax avoiders! who would walk all over you Gail.”
What ever are you going on about?
First I am an Agnostic. ALL I am saying is that the Catholic Church does not at this time pay tax per US LAW. However that law has strings attached because of a sleazy PROGRESSIVE, Lyndon B Johnson.
Obama and the international bankers have been hassling the Catholic Church and now the Catholic Church has come out in support of Obama’s pet cause but if the Catholic Church pushes that cause in the USA it risks losing its tax free status and will have to pay thousands if not millions in taxes.
Personally I find it absolutely hilarious. Hung by their own petard! Now if only the other churches and the Republicans will take advantage of the situation.— Either demand the Catholic Church pay tax or allow them the same freedom to mettle in politics. What a beautiful SNAFU!
Gail, What “Tax” does the Catholic Church not pay? and why are they apparently Tax exempt per US LAW?
If Google Apple facebook microsoft and starbucks (to name a few) can get away without paying Tax, why not a Christian religion?
Sparks, I suggest you go take a couple of courses in US tax law and then return to the conversation.
OH, and if Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Starbucks have not paid any Tax, then I would make sure I dumped the stock in those companies because that is an indication they are failing.
No Tax = No NET INCOME to be taxed and those are established companies. Very definitely not a good sign.
Why bother, Climate Change turns everything upside down and inside out anyway. It must be all the Popes fault now!
“Hoist with”, not “Hung by” (Shakespeare).
Ah hell. When they go after Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for their tax evasion then I might believe something would be done about others.
And Jeremiah Wright…and a few dozen others.
Galileo’s condemnation was a tragedy, but the advance of science was barely checked. In the long run, it was the Catholic community that paid the heavy price.
The scientific revolution began with Copernicus’ quiet report in 1543 on the “fountain of energy” that sustains the Earth-Sun system.
The scientific revolution ended with Joseph Stalin’s quiet recruitment of geophysicists in 1945 to construct a “RED MATRIX OF DECEIT” about energy in the Earth-Sun system.
The good news for humanity tonight: The force fields from the Sun’s pulsar core are almost certainly the same spiritual forces our ancestors worshipped at the dawn of each new day!
I.e., there is no conflict between science and spirituality, but there is much conflict between junk science and spirituality.
