Can Senator Whitehouse Save The Climate?

Rhode Island’s Senator Sheldon Whitehouse believes he can save the climate. This is excellent news, but sad that he wasn’t around to do this 200 years ago.

Off Topic, but have you seen this one from Business Insider? weather records from the Greenville-Spartanburg airport all the way back to 1895. http://www.businessinsider.com/south-carolinas-hidden-climate-report-2014-12 When was the airplane invented?

    • rah says:

Wright brothers made it off the sands at Kitty Hawk in 1903.

    • Eric Simpson says:

Well, they knew that airports take a long time to build, so they had to get cracking early building the airport in 1895 so it would be completed in time for the coming age of the airplane starting in 1903.

    • theyouk says:

GSP itself only dates back to around 1962, and was preceded by GMU (from 1928). So yes, very, ummm, ‘interesting’ that they are citing ‘the airport’ from 1895. Unbelievable–or rather, all too believable. Scoundrels, all of them…

  3. I can’t believe such bad weather occurred before my dad bought his first suburban. About 1978 if I remember correctly.
    Surely you’re mistaken mr Goddard
There would have been no cause for bad weather in those days.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is an idiot. If any of you recall the climate hearings where Roy Spencer was in attendance; Whitehouse started by asking Dr. Spencer if he was a Christian. He didn’t follow up with a reason for the question; he just wanted to let others know that Dr. Spencer was a Christian. In Senator Whitehouse’s world, being a Christian is more criminal than Isis cutting the heads off of small children.

Imagine if Providence 1938 was Providence 2014. Boy would we hear nothing from the fear mongering leftists but “global warming global warming global warming climate change climate change climate change” until hell freezes over.

  7. I am pleased somebody wants to save it. Many people just gave up on climate and left it for dead. Some even hate it and want it dead.

  8. The vast majority of academics and students at Brown University, high on the hill overlooking Providence harbor, are certain that extreme weather events and blazing heat are about to destroy the world and this is all due to man’s CO2 emissions from carbon-based fuel use. The destructive forces of Mother Nature pale before those of man. Oh how do they endeavor to degrade my Sc.B. in Physics from Brown, the university with so little respect for reality and reason.

    • Gail Combs says:

I am completely disgusted with mu University too. Propaganda has replaced science.

      • Propaganda and indoctrination have replaced science and reason generally on most college campuses. Speech codes limit freedom of speech and inquiry. A mockery is made of the free trade of ideas, since no inconvenient fact is ever allowed to get in the way of the anointed Progressive Elitist dogma. The War on Poverty, the War on Drugs, the War on Energy Use, and the enlargement of government must go on, no matter how inept and insubstantial the results. Their stated purposes are never achieved, but the programs go on forever because they forever make the Progressive Elitist feel good about himself, or more likely, herself. No critical assessment is ever to be continenced, because only emotional reassurance is of interest.

Mainstream academia (emphasis on public schools) today commits what I call possibly the most damaging and heinous form of child abuse. And that is teaching kids what to think rather than how, as it can disable a child for life.

        • Gail Combs says:

          Yes gator,
The misinformation intentionally fed to children is Child Abuse but it is much worse than that. It is the intentional destruction of the USA starting with the most vulnerable, our children.

…the traditional curriculum that sustained the capitalist, individualistic system and found what he believed was the sustaining linchpin — that is, the key element that held the entire system together: high literacy. To Dewey, the greatest obstacle to socialism was the private mind that seeks knowledge in order to exercise its own private judgment and intellectual authority. High literacy gave the individual the means to seek knowledge independently. It gave individuals the means to stand on their own two feet and think for themselves. This was detrimental to the “social spirit” needed to bring about a collectivist society. — Dumbing Down America

          NYC is a classic.

New York City’s literacy rates are on the decline: nearly 80 percent of high school graduates lack basic skills like reading, writing and math and are required to relearn them before qualifying for community college….

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg hyped about the large investment the city has made on education – a multi-billion dollar investment that seems to have done little to help the city’s teens.

“He will be remembered as the Mayor of Education Failure, and his final speech ignored that reality. He has harmed our communities and families, and we cannot wait to see a new mayor replace him,” parent Zakiyah Ansari of New Yorkers for Great Public Schools told the New York Daily News.

The number of students who lack crucial reading, writing and math skills is the highest it has been in years…
          rt(DOT)com/usa/nyc-graduates-unable-to-read-011/

And it gets even worse. Majority of NYC teacher trainees flunk literacy tests

And it is not just NYC.

Surveys of corporations consistently find that businesses are focused outside the U.S. to recruit necessary talent. In a 2002 survey, 16 global corporations complained that American schools did not produce students with global skills. United States companies agreed. The survey found that 30 percent of large U.S. companies “believed they had failed to exploit fully their international business opportunities due to insufficient personnel with international skills.” One respondent to the survey even noted, “If I wanted to recruit people who are both technically skilled and culturally aware, I wouldn’t even waste time looking for them on U.S. college campuses.”

…the U.S. ranks 21st out of 29 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries in mathematics scores, with nearly one-quarter of students unable to solve the easiest level of questions….In 2000, 28 percent of all freshmen entering a degree-granting institution required remedial coursework

No teacher, but every textbook, left behind.

….For 10 years, William Schmidt, a statistics professor at Michigan State University, has looked at how U.S. students stack up against students in other countries in math and science. “In fourth-grade, we start out pretty well, near the top of the distribution among countries; by eighth-grade, we’re around average, and by 12th-grade, we’re at the bottom of the heap, outperforming only two countries, Cyprus and South Africa

Without a well trained intelligent thinking younger generation this country has no future except a return to tyranny.

        • Gail Combs says:

It does not stop there. Our gifted students who are bored out of their minds are called ADHD and fed drugs to control them – drugs with major side effects. The Drugging of Our Children

          Gifted or ADD?

…Gifted children and adults are at high risk for being identified as ADD. Most people, including most medical professionals, do not realize giftedness is often associated with the following behaviors:

          underachieving
          anger and frustration
          high energy, intensity, fidgeting, impulsivity
          individualistic, nonconforming, stubborn
          disorganization, sloppy, poor handwriting
          forgetful, absentminded, daydreams
          emotional, moody
          low interest in details

Moreover, sometimes adults do not realize a child is gifted because they don’t really know what “gifted” means. Or they may believe a child is both ADD and gifted. As a result, many gifted children these days are being medicated for a brain defect they probably don’t have….

At this point I wonder if the Progressives are fully aware that these are gifted children they are drugging. My husband was gifted but his Grandparents from Socialist Europe threw a hissy fit when his parents wanted to put him in a private school because ” it would make him think he was better than others.” This was 65 years ago and done to their only grandchild. Think what people of this mind set would be willing to do to other people’s children.

Ritalin Can Cause Permanent Brain Damage

…scientists at the University at Buffalo, New York, have shown that the drug methylphenidate, the generic form of Ritalin, may have long-term effects on brain function.

Dr Joan Baizer, who is due to present the study at the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego, California, said: “Clinicians consider Ritalin to be short-acting. When the active dose has worked its way through the system, they consider it ‘all gone’.

“Our research with gene expression in an animal model suggests that it has the potential for causing long-lasting changes in brain cell structure and function.”

“Children have been given Ritalin daily for many years, and it is extremely effective and beneficial, but it’s not quite as simple as a short-acting drug. We need to look at it more closely.”

Although the changes are similar to those seen with cocaine, there is no evidence that the low doses given to children are likely to lead to addiction.

Br Baizer added: “Ritalin does appear to be safe when used properly, but it is still important to ask what it is doing in the brain.”

High doses of amphetamine and cocaine switch on certain genes in particular brain cells which alter the way nerve cells work. One of these genes is called c-fos and is known to be involved in movement and motivation in part of the brain known as the striatum.

The team wanted to see if the drug caused c-fos activation in the same parts of the brain, and at the same levels, as the other drugs.

Using young rats as an animal model, they gave one group sweetened milk containing a relatively high dose of methylphenidate. The dose was designed to mimic the effects of Ritalin on children. The other group was given ordinary sweetened milk.

After 90 minutes, the brains of both groups were analyzed for the presence of c-fos. Results showed there were many more neurons with c-fos activity in the brains of rats given methylphenidate, particularly in the striatum, than in the brains of control rats.

Dr Baizer said: “These data do suggest that there are effects of Ritalin on cell function that outlast the short term and we should sort that out. There is no indication of tolerance, but we have no idea if there is adaptation to the effects.”

And when concerned parents want to take their kids off the Damn Drug? Why CALL CHILD SERVICES and accuse them of child abuse. War on Drugs? who needs a War on Drugs when the schools are handing out drugs like candy?

Psychiatric Drug Facts with Dr. Peter Breggin — School calls Child Services on Parents who take Child of Ritalin
administrators from the Berne-Knox-Westerlo school district called Albany County Child Protective Services, alleging child abuse when the Carrolls said they wanted to take Kyle off the drug. As a result, the Carrolls are now on a statewide list of alleged child abusers, and they have been thrust into an Orwellian family court battle to clear their name and to ensure their child isn’t removed from their home. “It’s beyond the point of whether he should be on it. Now it’s the point of them telling us what we’re going to do,” said Michael Carroll. “They’re telling me how to raise my child.”

The Carroll’s dilemma is not unique. While there are no reliable statistics on the phenomenon, observers say public schools are increasingly accusing parents of child abuse and neglect if they balk at giving their children medication such as Ritalin

DNA Testing – Personality and Behaviour

Traditionally, scientists and psychologists have studied identical twins who share the same genes to find out if differences in personality and behaviour can be put down to the environment. Scientists have discovered through DNA testing that around half of our personality traits are hard-wired into our genes….

The Human Genome Project’s main aim however is not to undertake DNA testing to work out the genes governing behaviour but to focus on the faulty genes responsible for disease. DNA testing reveals there are roughly 25,000 genes that human cells use as templates to make proteins – which build and maintain our bodies. Dr Collins stressed to the BBC that no matter what DNA testing reveals about genetic make-up and behaviour, it would be a terrible mistake to forget about nurture and the role environment plays in human personality and behaviour.

In the USA – Newborn DNA Banking

The DNA of virtually every newborn in the United States is collected and tested soon after birth…. States require hospitals to screen newborns for certain genetic and other disorders… they do not require medical personnel to get parents’ express permission before carrying it out.

It used to be that after the screening was completed the blood spots were destroyed. Not anymore. Today it is increasingly common for states to hold onto these samples for years, even permanently. Some states also use the samples for unrelated purposes, such as in scientific research, and give access to the samples to others.

[Fabian] Tony Blair, who met 20 genetics experts yesterday to discuss the implications of their work, threw his weight behind the science…

It would be technically possible to sequence the genome, or genetic blueprint, of each new baby – providing them with a rundown of each and every one of their genes and their risk of developing certain diseases. As they grow up, this would allow them to take preventative measures, adopt healthier lifestyles, and have treatments tailored to their needs…..

That why I left Fargo, my wife is from South Dakota, the joke in our home is Joan though she knew what winter was like until she married me in 1993 and I moved her to Fargo, funny 1993 is the year Joan bought her first and only full length down coat. We bought a house in the fall of 1993 and we had a thirty foot driveway and no snow blower that 60 inch plus winter of snow fall was a lot of fun especially shovel the drive and raking the roof, her sister though Joan was pulling her leg when her sister ask where is Mark and Joan replied raking the roof. Little did we know the 1997 was going to top that off wit 117 inches of snow at least I had a snow blower that year. I also learned, yes you can barbecue a turkey in -20 degree weather it on requires putting six inches of fiber glass insulation around the grill had on the paint but is does work. Christmas in Mesa AZ is a lot nicer grilling work a lot better in 60 degree weather. I expect to be in North Dakota sometime in January, might need a sanity check on that one, but work calls, only thing I can say is can’t retire soon enough so I can for go that, yet it look like grandson number one will be born next may, might have to be in Alexander, ND next Christmas! Maybe three plane tickets to Mesa would make more sense!
