You Simply Aren’t Qualified To Dispute The Scientific Consensus

WRAGGE: Is this the same weather pattern, though, that’s affecting us that’s affecting other regions around the world? You’ve had problems in Brazil with mud slides, Australia’s going through some weather issues now. Is this the same?
DR KAKU: Similar. El Nina, cold weather around the equator, is contributing to what’s happening in Australia. And I was in Brazil just two weeks ago, where they had monster mud slides, killed hundreds of people because of flooding. Massive flooding. And it’s summertime now in Brazil.
WRAGGE: In El Nina, what are the patterns here? Is it every couple of years?
DR KAKU: Yeah , El Nina and the North Atlantic oscillations go back and forth every few years and they last a few months. And so we have both effects helping to bring down cold air from the north, while the Earth itself is heating up, creating more moisture in the Gulf of Mexico. And when the two meet, watch out.
Not even being able to have the terminology right doesn’t exactly instil confidence, eh?
Some people think that a PhD makes them an expert on everything. (See: “Climate Expert”)
Michio Kaku (/?mi?t?io? ?k??ku?/; born January 24, 1947) is an American futurist, theoretical physicist…

And theoretical physicists are the worst offenders.
PhD just meant your were stupid enough to waste 2-3 years on faking a research project

Because why? Shut up!

Darn it Gator,
That looks like me and my buckskin quarter horse. (She was a lot smarter than Mikey and Co.)
And Chris,
this site reaches all the parts that other sites fail to reach.
Yeah, from looking at a quite few other sites Richard, I would have to agree with you.
…A significant amount of ironic humor added in.
We really really need that humor…
this site delivers on all accounts.
I wish I hadn’t burned my collection of SciAm 70’s-80’s out of dissatisfaction with sudden rise of lousy propaganda for freaking esoteric unknowingness. The section “50, 100 and 150 years ago” was always astounding and I began to associate it with the short stories in Astounding Science Fiction (ed. John W. Campbell, Jr.). The one message I remember quite well in this SciAm section said “Scientists have now estimated the coal in the Sun is enough for another 5,000 years.” /nosarc

The sci-worshippers always counter with “but because of science, we were able to correct those errors.”
I ask “how do you know you’ve got it right this time?”
ANSWER: “Peer review.”

http://www.michaelcrichton.net/essay-stateoffear-whypoliticizedscienceisdangerous.html Imagine that there is a new scientific theory that warns of an impending crisis, and points to a way out.
This theory quickly draws support from leading scientists, politicians and celebrities around the world. Research is funded by distinguished philanthropies, and carried out at prestigious universities. The crisis is reported frequently in the media. The science is taught in college and high school classrooms.
I don’t mean global warming. I’m talking about another theory, which rose to prominence a century ago.
