Another Global Warming Icon Bites The Dust

Alarmists have been telling us for years that Glacier National Park is imminently doomed due to global warming. Now it turns out they stopped retreating four years ago.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Healthy snowpack and cooler summers over the past four years have slowed melting of remaining glaciers in Glacier National Park in Montana, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

So the glaciers have paused in active retreat,” said Dan Fagre, a research ecologist with the USGS’ Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in Bozeman who is stationed at Glacier.

Sort of like my place was frozen solid until May this year.

Not to mention the Great Lakes which looked more like Glacier Park. 🙂

I note that Colorado is forecast to get some more snow over the next day or so.

Students are building a new Icon to their CAGW religion. Pope Al Gore will be there at the official opening. Children won’t know what a church looks like in a few years.

And when it doesn’t melt? Do they then have to share it with polar bears (which evolved during the last Ice Age due to being stranded on Ireland which was then covered by a glacier)?

  5. Pathway says:

Looks like it snowed this afternoon at Telluride and Aspen.

Steve, I guess, pretty soon, when you’re in Maryland, you’ll be free to choose whatever restroom suits your fancy. Aren’t progtards brilliant?

    • Great! After Oct. 1 I can legally follow that beautiful woman at the gym into the shower – and won’t have to imagine what she looks like with her clothes off. (Assuming she is actually a woman)

What could possibly go wrong with that?

    • Phil Jones says:

Yep… That’s one good thing about these Nutcases… Can’t distinguish between men and women…. Yet somehow I think Steven would get arrested in that women’s shower….

  7. Gamecock says:

Glaciers had been receding at Glacial Nat Park for 11,000 years. Caused by global warming. Really.

  8. “Pausing in active retreat” lol.

Steve, what’s the temperature record for Montana look like?

Has any got a full list of Going-to-the-Sun Road opening dates?

    1970-1999 dates are here:

Seems the bulk of the retreat happened some 70 years ago in Glacier National Park… Despite all the CO2 we’ve blown in the air for the past 100 years…

Still… It appears all North American Glaciers have still been retreating for the past few decades… To a much lesser and more difficult to measure extent…

Can anyone explain this? Are glaciers still “catching up” or perhaps were more closely monitored since the coldness of the 70’s? I do see the Glaciers as sort of a bell weather for Temperature…

    • Olaf Koenders says:

They’re more a bell weather for long past snowfall, since they’re basically a slow moving river of compressed snow. But if ever an alarmist town wanted warming, they’d pray for some if a glacier was advancing on them 😉

  11. Gail Combs says:

” I do see the Glaciers as sort of a bell weather for Temperature…”

Actually they are more an indication of the amount of winter snowfall. Where as Obama is just a bellwether.

    • Phil Jones says:

It’s not that simple… When I lived in the Seattle area Mt Baker got 150′ of snow… Yet there were no glaciers.

It’s a bellweather of freezing vs above freezing temps…

  12. Brian H says:

“Paused in active retreat”. Like the pause in active rise of global temperature?
