Global Warming Catastrophes Are Permanently “Just Over The Horizon”

Decade after decade, scientists tell us that global warming is just about to come and kill us all.

As global nightmares go, the greenhouse effect has managed not to keep policy makers awake nights devising plans of action. Scientists see an assortment of theoretical catastrophes just over the horizon, but the more dire their predictions, the more difficult it seems to find an appropriate response.

  1. Gamecock says:

Somewhere, over the rainbow, blue birds crash and burn.

      Underfunded on insufficiently capitalized?

Well, that’s not it at all … it’s what goes on “behind the set” when the show is over. The movie set, that thin veneer the public sees while play action is carried out on stage in front of the veneer …

  2. Andy DC says:

Catastrophes, like longest period without a major hurricane, fewer tornaodes, rebound in sea ice (sac). Warming, if any, gone flat and well within range of past natural variability. All so terrible. We are all going to die!

The Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson had it about right.

“It’s very good jam,” said the Queen.
“Well, I don’t want any to-day, at any rate.”
“You couldn’t have it if you did want it,” the Queen said. “The rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday – but never jam to-day.”
“It must come sometimes to ‘jam to-day’,” Alice objected.
“No, it can’t,” said the Queen. “It’s jam every other day: to-day isn’t any other day, you know.”
“I don’t understand you,” said Alice. “It’s dreadfully confusing!”

“Just over the Horizon” like my next theoretical pay rise.

OP: Global Warming Catastrophes Are Permanently “Just Over The Horizon”

Permanent funding ploy. It seems to work, too. Politicians have no memory of the budgets they passed in the previous session.

    • Gail Combs says:

Of course politicians have memories. They have to keep track of what favors are owed and whether they have been paid off.

I wrote: [They] have no memory of the budgets they passed in the previous session.

No ‘memory’ for numbers; the touchy-feely things like favors excite a different part of the brain … the difference being the area that performs concrete operations vs the “who’s my friend and buddy” registry …
