A Special Thanks

I wanted to thank the spider which killed nearly a dozen flies in my apartment while I was away last week. It is difficult getting good help these days.

Have you ever heard the story about the old lady who swallowed a fly? Now you have spider issues, and it only grows from there! LOL!

I do like spiders (my wife hates them). I had a big yellow and black one outside the back door that I took care not to disturb. Until she found it!

    • I usually ride to the gym late at night, after the spiders have started building their webs across the trail. Riding through spider webs is just one more fun part of cycling.

Your big yellow and black spider moved to my back door.

I hate spiders but I don’t kill them, flies and mosquitoes on the other hand….

I don’t know that I like spiders, but I do like having them around. I once had one move into the little over flow hole in my bathroom sink. Got eyeball to eyeball with it every time I would lean under the faucet to rinse after brushing my teeth. It would make a little web in the left corner of the sink, and when ever I swaited a fly (and there was something left of it) I would drop it in that wed and it would run out for dinner. Lasted about 6 months I think..lol

But the big question is…. Did the spider “THINK”… “Thinking” back on that heated thread, it came to me that there is a difference between “thinking” and computing. As in “do computers think, or “AI”….

I think that is one of her children. They do not live long, and she was prolific. A couple of her offspring are still around.

        Pretty though, isn’t she?

I had a pet spider in an apartment once. It was on the ground floor and ants liked to come up through the floor. Probably a crack in the slab under the carpet. Where most of them came up, where the kitchen ended and the dining room began, a spider took up residence under the overhang of the bottom cabinet. The ants came up the spider dealt with them. I vacumed up the remains every so often and the spider would go into a deep corner, then redo the web. A very useful spider.

  4. It’s Climate Disruption which killed them…

Cold and windy in Virginia.. hot and humid out here in CA where my flies died as well… this is the first sign of the Apocalypse….

Looks like you need to check your flyscreens. They do not seem to be working as they should.

    • That would make it very difficult for the dogs to get out to the deck.

      • philjourdan says:

Screens don’t stop my dogs! But then after they get out, the screens do not stop the flies from coming in. 😉

        • Mat Helm says:

You know, last time I checked, you can still get a roll of metal screen. Fill the slot with some weed eater line. Add a few screws over the slot even, if needed. That’ll make the dog think twice.
Did this once to a girlfriend’s screen door. It worked on her german shepherd. Well, sort of. Turned out the screen door wasn’t installed very well and he almost knocked the whole thing out.

        • philjourdan says:

I take the view it is easier to replace screens than doors. 😉

        • rah says:

No dogs getting through my “screen doors”. Both are ornamental security doors. Put screens in the upper segment during the warmer months and tempered glass during the colder times. Tempered glass remains in the lower segments at all times. Expensive, but worth it.

        • Gail Combs says:

The nice thing about being in the south is ALL the critters stay outside — except the spiders… well a few goats and lambs too if the weather is really nasty. Trouble is the bottle babies then think of the kitchen as home.

        • philjourdan says:

UNLESS – last winter is the new normal. We brought all of them inside during the cold parts. When the temps get below 20, the pets come inside. Fortunately, we just have the dog and cat variety.

    • Screens are single function. The spider catches flies and lets the dogs out and back in.

‘nearly killed a dozen flies’ huh. What the matter with your spider, has it been sick?
