I attended NAU for a year and lived in Sedona for several years. In 1980 the ski area had twenty feet of snow on the ground. Other years they have almost none. The climate there changes every few weeks.

That climate destroying fireplace appears to be burning wood which is made from solar energy, collected by the world’s best solar panels — tree leaves.
Try telling that to the EPA when they come to haul you off to jail.

That is a STUPID fireplace. Inefficient.
My wood stoves are very efficient. Generates maximum heat from minimum wood. If the wood is exposed, all the air is pulled out of the room and goes up the chimney as does 80% of the heat or worse.
Really dumb fireplace which is ‘decoration’ not ‘heating’ By the way, on my mountain it is often below zero F. Open fireplaces are really bad.

That is why we installed a woodstove in our fireplace. It was in the basement. We cut a hole in the floor over the stove and put in a nice decorative brass grill. Then we opened the basement door at the other end of the house and the stove heated the whole house. (We lived in NH at the time)
The idiot contractor who built our home in NC put in the heat exchangers where the chimney should have gone.
You would think when you have them put in extra footings to hold the stove they might have a clue that you want to put in a chimney on the other side of the wall.
No matter what you have, wood burning produces more pollutants than fossil fuels.
I rather use electricity from Thorium Nuclear plants.
Tell it to DHLS when they come to take you away. New wood stoves are now Verboten.
