“These (weather) events would not have happened without global warming,” said Kevin Trenberth, chief of climate analysis for the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

But the Moscow freeze is just weather
http://www.themoscownews.com/local/20101201/188245036.html
And it is a TRAVESTY that he can not find the missing HEAT!
Every one else claims that was due to a natural weather event so that must make Kevin a denier!
Which planet do these people come from because I don’t recognise the Earth where weather and geological events never happen.
It is a MANN”S world!
ROTFLMAO !! Good one.

Trenberth seems to have 20:20 hindsight.
He is a Climatologist specializing in AGW!
Of course having a degree in communication and being a free lance writer does not diminish qualifications for being part of the Chicken Little Brigade.
A natural weather event caused by long term ocean atmosphere weather patterns that are observed throughout history suddenly change to being controlled by CO2 GHGs in spite of all evidence to the contrary!
Thanks for sharing as it is always enlightening to see what the CLB is clamoring about!
the full context is:
“So there is a chain of events here, and several things have come together to make it record breaking. But it is not unexpected, even if it is not predictable more than a couple of weeks in advance.
Global warming plays a role by 1) elevating the SSTs in the Indian Ocean and Indonesian region, where it contributes to the excessive moisture and rains that gave the flooding over Pakistan, India and China; and 2) In Russia by adding to the heat and drying, making the drought more intense, longer lasting, and with stronger and record breaking heat waves. These events would not have happened without global warming.”
That is udder BS! or should I use CS as bulls do not have udders!
This shi@ has been seen in historical records before the Magic CO2 concentrations could have played a part.
You seem to part of the group of Ignorant Climate Change deniers that every one is writing about that are spreading misinformation about historical climate!
He must be talking about these “elevated” temps in the Indian ocean. It’s cooler, no it’s hotter….Only the blind eye refuses to see the cooler temps in the Indian Ocean.

For cthulhu,
How on earth does air heat up sea surfaces?
You got it bass ackwards, oceans warm first (by direct sunshine) which then warms the air.
AGW CANNOT warm the oceans. Open your eyes and mind
“Droughts and famines in Russia and the USSR tended to occur on a fairly regular basis, with famine occurring every 10–13 years and droughts every 5–7 years.
Major famines include the Great Famine of 1315–1317, which affected much of Europe including part of Russia. Russia had famine in 1601 – 1603, believed to be its worst. Another was the Russian famine of 1891-2, which killed between 375,000 and 500,000 people.”
“The second Soviet famine happened during the collectivisation in the USSR. In 1932-1933 confiscations of grain and other food by the Soviet authorities[2] caused a famine which affected more than 40 million people, especially in the south on the Don and Kuban areas and in Ukraine, where by various estimates from 5 to 10 million may have starved to death (the event known as Holodomor).[4] Estimates of deaths due to the 1932-1933 famine vary wildly, but are typically given in the range of millions. About 200,000 Kazakh nomads fled to China, Iran, Mongolia and Afghanistan during the famine.”
If the Moscow heatwave could not have taken place without global warming, then how to you explain the Dust Bowl in the 1930’s with years of drought and 120 degree weather in every state from Texas to North Dakota? Or 115 degrees in St. Louis during 1954?
“He must be talking about these “elevated” temps in the Indian ocean.”
Trenberth was talking in September (don’t let this blog article mislead you into thinking Trenberth has just said this). Your map is from today.
“If the Moscow heatwave could not have taken place without global warming, then how to you explain the Dust Bowl in the 1930?s with years of drought and 120 degree weather in every state from Texas to North Dakota? Or 115 degrees in St. Louis during 1954?”
Trenberth is saying that the heatwave wouldn’t have been as intense if it wasn’t for global warming.
Of course, Trenberth, and you, know better than the local experts about the vagaries of Russian weather.

“Trenberth is saying that the heatwave wouldn’t have been as intense if it wasn’t for global warming.”
Easy to say, but of course he has absolutely no evidence at all.
Brilliant!
Climate Change Dispatch have a good assessment of the situation using information from Physical Sciences Division (PSD) of the Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
http://www.climatechangedispatch.com/climate-reports/7531-the-great-russian-heat-wave-of-2010-part-ii
“Despite this strong evidence for a warming planet, greenhouse gas forcing fails to explain the 2010 heat wave over western Russia. The natural process of atmospheric blocking, and the climate impacts induced by such blocking, are the principal cause for this heat wave. It is not known whether, or to what extent, greenhouse gas emissions may affect the frequency or intensity of blocking during summer. It is important to note that observations reveal no trend in a daily frequency of July blocking over the period since 1948, nor is there an appreciable trend in the absolute values of upper tropospheric summertime heights over western Russia for the period since 1900.”

http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/csi/moscow2010/
“Our assessment indicates that, owing to the mainly natural cause for this heat wave, it is very unlikely that a similar event will recur next summer or in the immediate future (next decade). Whereas this phenomena has been principally related to a natural extreme event, its impacts may very well forebode the impact that a projected warming of surface temperatures could have by the end of the 21st Century due to greenhouse gas increases.”
So by the same reasoning the current cold and snow would be much worse in the UK if it was not for global warming. Before you reply the Met Office says that it is very likely that this is going to be the coldest December on the record. We have already seen the earliest widespread snowfalls in November.
Let go of AGW and you will be at peace.
Love!
Kevin Trenberth is speaking from his rear hole.

I’m still waiting for factual information from some of these experts. All I’ve seen or heard so far is OPINION .
nice article thanks!!
