Growth Of Multi-Year Ice

In 2008, Mark Serreze incorrectly forecast an ice-free North Pole – based on the fact that it was covered with thin first-year ice. Cryosat shows below that MYI (black line) has grown substantially in extent since then.

PIOMAS continues to show record low volumes of ice, despite all indications to the contrary that the ice is thickening.

    If PIOMAS is correct, we’ll see essentially zero ice in the summer within 5 years, so it won’t take long to evaluate it.

    It’s going to be great watching how the sea ice thickness changes with tim thanks this new tool. Lets hope they have a public facing website with some weekly or daily maps / graphs.
