In another thread here we were talking about how Presidents use actions by their predecessors to move the ball further down field, in that case the precedent of lying and covering up Presidential illness.
What you have touched upon here brings up another example, White House tapes and eavesdropping that originated as far back as FDR and was improved upon and perfected by later Presidents. We are still hearing today the tapes made by JFK and LBJ with unsuspecting subjects. Yet Nixon was crucified for the same thing. The only difference of substance was the corrupt media.
