The Stellar Record Of Academics

Academics tell us that everyone will starve to death by 1980, Manhattan will drown by 2008, the Arctic will be ice-free by 2008, the Earth will freeze by the year 2000, sea level will rise five metres this century, children won’t know what snow is, 12 degrees warming this century, the southwest is in  a permanent drought, the midwest is a dustbowl, AIDS will kill us all, Mad Cow disease will kill us all, WTC victims are “little Eichmans” …..

And no matter how many times they are wrong, they just ramp up their confidence levels. Basically, these people don’t know jack shit about anything.

Academics produce only one product – ideas. These people are isolated from the results of their ideas, and humanity often suffers. The old 19th Century academics inspired communism in all its various destructive forms, as well as communism-lite, the welfare state, which is now imploding for the same economic reasons. Environmentalism is another iteration of this long tradition of totalitarianism by zealots….

Academics, along with lawyers and journalists, live wholly in the world of words. Rhetoric is everything. If one can construe a clever argument that people believe, he thinks he’s won the only prize.

Other people have to test theories, not just in a laboratory or journal of colluding peers, but in the real world, which has large consequences.

  3. I read Weekly World News. I know it’s all wrong but it’s entertaining. I don’t read serious journals because it’s all wrong and pisses me off.

Worked for more than 15 years abroad mostly in so called “Third world countries” . After returning opened my own business in the IT / Comms business. Did more than 8 years working in University and Technology institutes. Worked closely with a lot of “Academics”.

I.M.H.O. more than 70% are no more than school children in adult bodies. Many have always been in the “school system” probably married to another academic in the “school system” and usually have never had a job in the real world.

One Academic I know is allegedly a road traffic expert. He rides a bicycle and is of the opinion that everyone should ride a bicycle. He is a man the governments of the day go too for road planning advice. Been in the school system all of his anorak life. Yes….. he has grey hair and an unkempt beard.

Also put a lot of time in the hospital system and related medical industries. Medical staff are trained to fix your body up when it goes wrong. As a general rule don’t ask their opinion on anything else.

I encountered a former high school girlfriend of mine a few years ago who adamantly campaigned against Reagan. She now works in DC as an attorney, is still a leftist, and still sports the same hairdo she did as a pompom girl. The only change I discerned is that she is now married, and now much older.

  5. Andy DC says:

They have read too many comic books, watched too many B sci fi movies and consumed way to much LSD.

  6. X says:

Too bad Academia has become a new branch of politics.

Steve, they’re not even that good.

    RE: “little Eichmanns”

Below are the paragraphs Ward Churchill states were taken out of context. He says the media twisted them to mean the opposite of what he actually meant. We should read and decide for ourselves.

    1. WTC victims deserved it.
    2. There was no other way for “the punishment” to be meted out.
    3. The terrorists aren’t cowards.
    4. Our men and women in uniform are cowards.

“To the extent that any of them were unaware of the costs and consequences to others of what they were involved in – and in many cases excelling at – it was because of their absolute refusal to see. More likely, it was because they were too busy braying, incessantly and self-importantly, into their cell phones, arranging power lunches and stock transactions, each of which translated, conveniently out of sight, mind and smelling distance, into the starved and rotting flesh of infants. If there was a better, more effective, or in fact any other way of visiting some penalty befitting their participation upon the little Eichmanns inhabiting the sterile sanctuary of the twin towers, I’d really be interested in hearing about it.

The men who flew the missions against the WTC and Pentagon were not “cowards.” That distinction properly belongs to the “firm-jawed lads” who delighted in flying stealth aircraft through the undefended airspace of Baghdad, dropping payload after payload of bombs on anyone unfortunate enough to be below – including tens of thousands of genuinely innocent civilians – while themselves incurring all the risk one might expect during a visit to the local video arcade. Still more, the word describes all those “fighting men and women” who sat at computer consoles aboard ships in the Persian Gulf, enjoying air-conditioned comfort while launching cruise missiles into neighborhoods filled with random human beings. Whatever else can be said of them, the men who struck on September 11 manifested the courage of their convictions, willingly expending their own lives in attaining their objectives. “
