Met Office Having Difficulty Understanding Numbers

The HadCrut web page shows 0.49 – not 0.52

Joe Bastardi reports that England is having its coldest start to winter for as long as temperature records have been kept. Instead of reporting that, The Met Office writes that it is the hottest year ever.

Looks like Vicki has completely lost the plot.

yeh, I just ran the numbers, 1998—-0.528666667
    —————————–2010 — 0.4911——so far.

Given the La Nina induced trend, 0.531, 0.476, 0.387, 0.386(last 4 months through Oct), I don’t see 2010 getting anywhere close to 1998.

Funny you should say that, Steve. Earlier today I unsuccessfully tried to get the following comment published on the Daily Mail’s website (maybe they didn’t like the reference to a rival newspaper):

“In an interview in The Independent published on the 26 November 2010 (and reported to have taken place the day before) Dr Vicky Pope, the Met Office Hadley Centre’s head of climate science advice, said: “And we are starting to see a trend of fewer cold winters and more heatwaves in Britain, which we can link to global warming.””

Reading this, I am afraid that I just can’t help being somewhat reminded of those people who are adamant that they can see fairies at the bottom of their gardens.”

MetO hasn’t run it through their model verification algorithm yet.

HadCRUT is just the “raw data”. Met O analyzes it and adjusts. Seriously. Just watch what Met O does with the numbers in January. I had a bet with someone last year on 2009. The bet was to be based on HadCRUT, but later in the year he starting posting Met O numbers which were higher than HadCRUT (which made me the winner). Of course the loser claimed Met O is the official record to which my response was less than congenial.

It looks like they’re using January through August which averages to .517

No, I think she’s being faithful to the plot in the global warming script. Probably why she has the job she’s got.

Global temps are weather, are they not? Climate scientists may be out of their elements as well as their minds…
