That is remarkable given the massive urbanization and resulting heat island effect we experience today.
Andy:
Just imagine how much colder the last few decades would have been if siting issues and UHI had been properly accounted for. Personally! I do not think we achieved the warmth of the 30s yet!
that is a really good point mike, that is what really woke me up to global cooling.
when even the UHI’s show no trend or cooling, then it must really be cooling
I’m inclined to agree with you on that one…..
Mike.
I agree. The heatwaves of 1930, 1934 and 1936 have not even been appoached during recent years. There were probably more 100 degree days during any one of those summers in places like St. Louis and Kansas City than there have been for the last 10 years combined.
Ok, this is getting tiring—WHERE ARE ALL THE GLOBAL WARMING BELIEVERS WHO SCREAMED LAST SUMMER ABOUT PHILADELPHIA BEING A HARBINGER OF GLOBAL WARMING?? Nothing to say now? You guys loved making a big deal out of a few days of hot weather. And you disappear when a story like this is posted.
Oh wait, don’t tell me, this cooler year than almost 200 years ago in the Little Ice Age is actually being caused by global warming.
Steven, Your google spreadsheet reference shows 1828 at 57.1 deg F and 2010 at 59.3 deg F – which makes 1828 cooler. Is that the correct data?
Something is wrong with the spreadsheet. It doesn’t match my original 1828 data. I’m not sure what is going on.
Thank you – And if that is the case then stay away from Google. It is a lot of work to search for the data, plot and post the article and then have a site you do not control shoot the whole thing down.
I agree. I am baffled as to what happened. They converted their spreadsheets a few months ago and it doesn’t make any sense any more.
