My Forecast For 2050

Football (fútbol) will be (by far) the most popular sport in the US.

Half the population will be of Hispanic descent, and most American kids play fútbol – so this is really a no-brainer.

They’ll be playing on artifical turn, or indoors since it wil be so bloody hot outside nothing will survive the heat, including the grass. They may also suffocate due to C02 levels being about 9000 PPM.

  2. MikeTheDenier says:

    turn – turf

Can I see the Peer Review results on this BOLD prediction…

of course you will still be around to defend it too…

More soccer moms are a good thing…

  5. Andy Weiss says:

Soccer is a wonderful conditioning sport and with the current plague of obesity. it’s great to see Amreican kids embracing it.

I also hope they don’t abandon other sports where the arms are relevant! There is more to being an athlete than just running and kicking.

  6. MikeTheDenier says:

These poor kids look malnourished. I think the soccer moms need to get more Big Macs for them.

will be 50%….it’s more like 60% here already!

By 2050, lots things will happen that we didn’t think of now. That’s my forecast.

Sigh, seeing that American football has devolved into a pass, catch, and kick competition, you’re probably right. Having played both, I can say both are excellent sports and our youth can learn much from both, if both are played properly. Given the choice, though, I’d give my right testicle to be able to suit up in pads and helmet again. I watch the game on all levels and want to cry for what they’ve done to the sport.

    • I used to love to play and watch American football when I was a kid. Professional games are now an hour longer than they were in the 1960s, and they average maybe five seconds of play per minute.

The game bores me to tears now.

      • suyts says:

Yeh, in a great way, the game reflects the trend of the nanny state. They want to eliminate risk from the game when the very nature of the game is risk and determination. The NFL fined a player several thousand dollars this year for a hit on the QB that was picture perfect. The hit was exactly how I was taught to play the game. Head up, shoulder into the midsection and drove the player into the ground. Too mean. WTF is that? How can one be too mean playing American football???? There is no room in football for Dick Butkus or Larry Csonka? Jim Thorpe must be spinning in his grave.

  10. You didn’t say if it would be good soccer though.

  11. Andy Weiss says:

The longer (American) football games are probably a result of much more time being allotted for idiotic ads. It’s gotten so bad that I watch football games with the mute button on.

Do you have TV timeouts for soccer?

With the weather that we have been having, I think Hockey will be the number 1 sport. I can just imagine the 2050 finals now, the austrialian wombats vers. the Mexican warriors, the final game played outdoors in downtown Athens. Too bad the South African Zulus were knocked out in the 3 round.

  13. Paul H says:

    Don’t be silly Steve.

Remember we will all be under water by 2050 and will all have to play this.

Let’s hope than when soccer ratings get as high as American football that it doesn’t become as overcommercialized.
