Burning Engineering Question : Can Buildings Survive Temperatures 0.5C Higher Than The Present UK?

Yeah – my own “professional society” the IET published a similar report looking at climate impacts. The most serious cause for concern they came up with was the slight increase in the electrical resistance of the grid – caused by 0.5oC warming!! The next was most serious impact was the non-existent danger of power stations flooding due to the 3mm/yr sea level rise.
Oh the humanity!!. What are we to do about these terrible impacts!! Lets shut down the economy now and go back to the caves – and hand all our worldly wealth to Al Gore and his cronies!
The have buildings and energy infrastructure in desert locations that seem to withstand a “touch” more warmth that you are talking about in any portion of the UK!
The problem, as it is well known, is not climate change but having to meet “stringent reduction targets”. A totally man-made issue, with no input from the sun or volcanoes.
Football (soccer in the U.S.) may be in its last days. Studies have shown that jock straps have not been engineered to handle a .5 degree rise in temperatures due to climate change; jock strap failure would of course result in catastrophic consequences that have not been seen in recorded history.
Only if it is newly designed Jocks as they were being used in the 60s in the Nevada desert which might be a bit above the .5 limit! 😉
