The upper 700 metres of the global ocean has seen a rise in temperature since reliable records began in the late 1960s. However, there has been a pause in this warming during the period from 2003 to 2010. The papers published this week offer explanations for this.
Climate model simulations from KNMI show that such pauses in upper ocean warming occur regularly as part of the climate system’s natural variability.
This is because of two factors. Firstly variations in the El Niño – Southern Oscillation, known as ENSO (a climate cycle which affects sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean), cause more of the heat stored in the upper ocean to be released into space.

Then they explain their theory that warm water sinks.
Secondly, heat can be temporarily moved to the deeper ocean below 700m due to changes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation – the oceanic conveyor belt that transports vast amounts of heat in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Talk about turning reality on its head! They must have been visiting the Rabbit Hole!
This explanation requires the missing heat accumulation to be skipping by these.

Under the sea ice in the Arctic is about the only place left. Only a very small fraction of the 0.9 W/m2 missing from the rest of the Earth surface and atmosphere, could be accounted for here.
“Climate model simulations from KNMI show that such pauses in upper ocean warming occur regularly as part of the climate system’s natural variability.”
So pauses in warming are natural, and warming isn’t? Got it.
Yep, I know whenever I want to find warmer water, I just go deeper cause thats where it likes to hide. It’s great when you are swimming or diving, you just go deeper to get warm…….works every time.
That’s good to know…..
warm water will sink before it evaporates off
The old ‘sinking heat’ trick. lol, more than 700 meters deep!! Is prolly why we’re not familiar with it…… my ears start popping at 15 feet! I just never went deep enough to feel the warm water!
Just remember that under that kind of pressure, the water can heat up more before boiling, so the ability to store Trenberth’s missing heat is actually greater the deeper you go. Thanks to AGW we can now rapidly cook our catch by simply attaching a sinker to it and lowering it down. Three minutes per pound at 700 meters and you are good to go.
Yeah, no doubt Al Gore’s “millions of degrees” heat is just past the 700 meter mark! You learn something new every day!
“A different set of model simulations from the Met Office supports the idea of heat moving to the deeper ocean explaining the recent pause in upper ocean warming.”
Seems that that deep is virtual heat
Seems that the deep heat is virtual heat

Marc Morano linked to big oil. Nothing he says counts for anything.
Take your ad homs somewhere else moron. There is no money in being a skeptic.
No need to get testy with me. It’s not my fault that your info is coming from people linked to big oil and creationist like Morano and “Dr.” Spencer.
I’m testy because I spend a huge amount of time doing this and know from first hand experience that there is no money in being a skeptic. You sir, are a scoundrel.
I bought a tank of fuel today so I must be linked to BIG Oil also!
Brian:
It is not who pays the bills but what is said. If the payer was the issue climate science would have been trashed long ago as they receive a great deal of funding from those who would gain from a restrictive outcome. Actually some already are!
NASA is linked to big oil so throw out every thing from them!
UEA CRU is linked to big oil so throw out every thing from them!
Most universities are funded by big oil so throw out every thing from them!
What would be left?
Natural weather variations that have existed since the beginning of time. The entire Chicken Little Campaign is funded by BIG OIL! Get a grip and live with it!
Next time you stop by be prepared!!
So, Brian, are you willing to state that anyone who is funded by “big oil” should be ignored? Or are you reserving the right to pick and choose whom you think is a scientist?

Quite a crew! I was bored and decided to check out this nonsense. CENSYS cites Rolling Stone magazine and Greenpeace as sources, as sound as any IPCC reporting. They also try and smear Morano for his affiliation with the swiftboaters. Funny that. The only swiftboater who would associate himself with Kerry was arrested for child pornography and was also stripped of his medals in an unrelated incident.

I’ll stick with the oil companies, thanks. ; )
Maybe Brian is also a member of that group of “Experts”!
Pat Michaels admits: ’40 percent’ of funding comes from big oil.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fguJod_voPc
Brian – Where does the funding for Jim Hansen come from?
Joe Romm?
How about Al Gore?
Who is paying for Mann’s lawyers?
Its ok because they are trying to save the world from………….
100% of the IPCC funding is from governments. Governments stand to gain more from AGW than any other entity on this planet. By your logic, all IPCC related ‘science’ should be completely disregarded. Childish argument. What’s the matter, no science to prove your silly claims?
Marc isn’t just linked to big oil, but to republican congressman and Rush Limbaugh which is a creditability killer on it’s own. Did you even read the link I posted? If it was up to right wing congress Climate Change research would be losing funding. Much like how Bush and company tried to silence James Hansen before. Or do you not remember that?
Credibility is killed by coming here and talking out your ass.
Only the most qualified people Gator. Those being Gavin and James Hansen for instance. Not crackpot creationist like Dr. Spencer.
Again Brian, do you have any science to offer? I know you have paranoia.
Let’s start with the basics. Please provide even one peer reviewed paper that refutes natural variability as the cause of recent or any climate changes. Or, please provide even one peer reviewed paper that shows that there is anything unusual or unprecedented about our cuirrent climate or how we got here.
I’m not a scientist. So I leave it up to the most qualified people, the people that actually have the funds and experience to do the research, and 97% have come to the conclusion that made is responsible for a lot of the climate change.
If Fossil Fuels are bad, would Big Oil want people to use our cars, appliances and air conditioning less? Of course not. Eat, drink and be merry they say.
Here is an informative speech from James Hansen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJp3_DcN1i4
97% of those funded to study global warming believe in global warming. How weird is that?
Brian, do you really believe that Crest will make your teeth whiter…………………
@Brian: “I’m not a scientist”
It shows.
@Brian: “Not crackpot creationist like Dr. Spencer.”
John Cook, who runs the website “Skeptical Science” (a pro-AGW site) is a conservative Evangelical Christian. Does that disqualify anything he says too?
Cook’s ok because he’s trying to save the world from…
At least trolls and morons have a short attention span…………………
So you cannot even find one peer reviewed paper to meet the basic needs of backing your silly claims. Got it.
Here is what Hansen’s former boss thinks of Hansen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhTxM2ith5k
Now find a paper or admit you have been taken in.
“…97% have come to the conclusion…”
Yes Brian, you have been duped. The survey was sent to 10,257 scientists, most of whom owe their livelihood to AGW. And yet less than 31% even bothered to respond to the ‘greatest threat mankind has ever faced’. That’s right, 69% cared so little about this looming global disaster that they 86’d the survey upon receipt. The frauds who put this together then eliminated respondents who did not agree until the 97% of 10,257 scientists was only 75 self described climate scientists, New math.
This kind of obvious fraud is given a pass, right Brian?
The opposite of skeptical is gullible.
Where is your proof of this gator?
So you have never read the survey? Nice. Quote papers you have never read. I actually read the survey and came to the same conclusion as this man.
“In any case, the two researchers must have feared that an 82% figure would fall short of a convincing consensus – almost one in five wasn’t blaming humans for global warming – so they looked for subsets that would yield a higher percentage. They found it – almost – in those whose recent published peer-reviewed research fell primarily in the climate change field. But the percentage still fell short of the researchers’ ideal. So they made another cut, allowing only the research conducted by those earth scientists who identified themselves as climate scientists.
Once all these cuts were made, 75 out of 77 scientists of unknown qualifications were left endorsing the global warming orthodoxy. The two researchers were then satisfied with their findings. Are you?”
Joe D’Aleo, CCM, AMS Fellow, First Director of Meteorology at The Weather Channel
Now what happened to those papers I asked for?
Well, Gator… As I said in another blog, I blew off Global Warming until this past spring when we got all those unbelievable tornadoes down here in the south. I figured it was some sort of political jostling over technology. Especially with Al Gore a well known political creating a lot of the build up in regards to Global Warming.
How scientific of you.
Number of strong tornadoes has been going down since the 50’s…………
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2010/11/25/warmer-temperatures-mean-fewer-tornadoes/
Brian, you are listening to Al Gore too? … holy crap … thanks everyone for a wonderful laugh at Brian’s expense no doubt. I really needed the chuckles today, has been a bad day.
Brian, might I make a suggestion for you. Keep your mouth shut and read for a few months, you will be doing yourself a HUGE favor. There are many people that frequent here and WUWT that will most certainly enlighten you.
Brian, QUITE BEING A SHEEPLE !!! .. open your eyes man…
