NSF Spends $700,000 On Global Warming Theatre

The country is bankrupt and the government is wasting almost a million dollars on Soviet style art propaganda.

The National Science Foundation has awarded a $700,000 grant to the Civilians, a New York theater company, to finance the production of a show about climate change. “The Great Immensity,” with a book by Steven Cosson (“This Beautiful City”) and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman (“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”), tells the story of Polly, a photojournalist who disappears while working in the rain forests of Panama.

“… a photojournalist who disappears while working in the rain forests of Panama.”

    Now I’m intersted.

  2. Mohatdebos says:

Has anyone calculated how much we could reduce the U.S. deficit by simply eliminating green subsidies, grants for studies on global warming/climate change/global wierding, and “educating” the great unwashed on why our standard of living is too high and, therefore, not “sustainable”.

  3. Jimash says:

NSF has no business financing musical theater.

  4. Andy WeissDC says:

We have all these wealthy alarmist celebrities in Hollywood that should be more than happy to do the show for free. Those people wouldn’t blow their nose for free. What a bunch of phonies.

  5. Justa Joe says:

    unconscionable

Another payback for supporting the DNC financed by you and me.

  6. Kaboom says:

Polly probably gets eaten by a polar bear.

    • Al Gored says:

That would fit. Journalists are a much better substitute for seals than skinny monkeys. With the dwindling Arctic ice the polar bears are now forced onto land so one showing up in the rain forests of Panama would be more proof of the Planetary Fever. Just a matter of time. The ones adapting to life in the rain forest will probably become greener… so there’s the moral of the story.

  7. Al Gored says:

I guess this isn’t inspired by the South Park episode where the kids go on a field trip to the rain forest and end up cheering the bulldozers.

Polly. Good name for this character or a parrot.

  8. John T says:

Well, I guess if my grant proposal for improving the safety & reliability of cells used in tissue replacement therapies for neurodegenerative diseases doesn’t get funded, I can rest easy knowing the money is being well-spent elsewhere…

Shoulda’ just gone into theater so I could play a scientist on tv instead.

  9. Hank says:

Although the NYT article was posted ic October 2010, the play won’t appear until February 2012 in Kansas City.
    A brief description from their website;
“”Drawing on interviews with individuals such as botanists, paleontologists, climatologists, indigenous community leaders, Polar Bear Tour guides, and trappers, The Great Immensity gives voice to real people whose stories make the reality of present crisis tangible and viscerally felt, inspiring us all to make the profound changes this moment demands.”
    Oh my……

  10. Debute in Kansas City….can someone please drop a house on this cast of WITCHDOCTORS ? ? ?
