The number of USHCN record daily July maximums in 2011 was less than one-tenth of 1936, and was just about average. Experts who claim that the number of record high temperatures is unusual, are either wildly incompetent or dishonest – or both.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

“Thomas July 13, 2012 at 10:22 pm
Meanwhile over 1000 counties in the USA are now drought disaster areas.
…1,016 counties in 26 states termed as natural disaster areas….
The past 12 months have been the warmest the United States has experienced since records began in 1895, the climatic data center said.

Sorry Marian, but that “Hot Topic” blog is filled with snotty ad-hominems (some directed at you), that joining in on it would impart credibility it does not deserve.
Your colleagues down under need to discredit “asserted facts,” “novel ideas,” and “off the wall opinions.” NOT the people making the assertions, etc. And it is done with counterfact and counterexample, not venom derived from the snake brains that create it.
Good luck and better fortune down there (whilst some try to wrest the fortunes from your respective bank accounts!
@Steve: Roy W Spencer would tend to agree with you:

Saved this pearl of wisdom:
“..communications technology causes extreme weather”.
It also causes extreme hysteria, since the number of alarmist morons that receive the information has been increasing over time.
