My ancestors were not allowed to possess weapons or wear the family tartan. If caught with either, they could be executed on the spot. Life afterward was hard, to say the least. Once mighty highland warriors and their families were kicked out of their homes, and off their lands (many were simply executed or imprisoned). It was a time of great misery.
