There is a theory that Franklin’s expedition went mad from lead solder sealed food cans causing their brains to quit working properly. They were so irrational that they tried dragging the captain’s oak desk back to Canada.

Does Guinness have a record category for “Most Miles Dragging A Boat Across Land”? If so, these morons are a shoe-in to shatter any and all previous records.

“When I had journeyed half of our life’s way,
I found myself within a shadowed forest,
for I had lost the path that does not stray…

“And just as he who, with exhausted breath,
having escaped from the sea to shore,
turns to the perilous waters and gazes…

“Abandon all hope, you who enter here.”

They know what’s coming, and are trying to get out of the way. They are probably headed south to find a shorter route across open water. From the other side of the bay, they can resume their trek through the shallows and along the sand-bars.

They need to focus on saving The Family Joules.
    Row deep into Eskimo Lakes.
    Abandon The Arctic Joule.
    Walk back to Tuktoyaktuk.
    Fly home.

Sure looks to me like they are headed for the Nicholson Peninsula airport. Maybe they intend to try another mode of transportation. They are only about 15 miles away from it now.
