The rowers will probably never get anywhere near this section, but if they were there today they would face this impenetrable ice. NCEP forecasts that this area will be below freezing in a week. Will the ice melt out in the next few days?
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Their tower looks to be getting good mileage with his 4-stroke and indeed, they’ll be looking at tough maneuvering through the Sutton Island area, especially with the large fanged ice riding hunters:)
Fat chance.
And this is all before the ice minimum. Are you stupid or just ignorant?
Have you reached your IQ minimum?
Its all over but the crackle of crumpling fiberglass…..
I reckon the rowers should go for it. “Break or break through”. They have nothing to lose. And if they die it will be a glorious death and U2 will make songs about them. And once again their bodies will become part of the carbon cycle.
Cool twist on Dune; Giving up carbon in place of water.
Right on Andy, Why even String nay be inspired to write at least a second good song before he dies and McCartney can name a veggie Rissole after them, you know the one that led him to having stents placed in his arteries.
You have to laugh.
Don’t you mean their bodies will become Bear Turds before carbon?
The wading team has been slogging steadily along in the shallows. Slow progress, and yet this way, they can laugh at the Arctic wind as they slog along in the shallow water, tugging their boat along. Pulling together indeed.
Reggie’s ice-vaporizing Brawndo-fueled Blowhard Blowtorch has been a mere fizzle.
Time for the waders to declare victory and go home before they end-up crushed by some non-existent, imaginary, completely melted Arctic ice floes.
No ships in the area close to them at all..

It doesn’t look like they have a chance of making it through the NW passage; looking at the condition of the present ice extent and the colder than normal temperatures, but the rowers have shown that they are not beyond hiking down the beach with their boat in tow if there are a few chunks of ice in view.
If these rowers make it through using GPS and satellites to manage their movements, but the ice extent is not at an all-time minimum. What have they accomplished or proven? Not a damn thing!
What is the point? Very good question.
Roald Amundsen first went through 110 years ago.
Some commercial ships went through in 2009.
Well organised crews with a small motorised boats could probably have gone through in many other past seasons – hugging the coast as these guys are doing.

Depends how you lie sorry spin it.
Where are they now? Site seems off.
