Kook and Nuttercelli keep telling us that Greenland is melting down. If that is the case, why is the Greenland Summit Camp main building built on stilts?

  1. Because it is less disruptive to Wildebeest migration
  2. To allow the flood waters from melting ice to run underneath it
  3. In case of the Day After Tomorrow tsunami
  4. They like to play with erector sets
  5. Otherwise the building would get quickly buried by the accumulating ice and snow
  6. All of the above

  1. Avery Harden says:

Well, if the earth is cooling and the Arctic sea ice is “recovering”, then how do you explain this. Arctic shipping through the NorthEast and NorthWest passage exceeded 1 million tons in 2013. It was 1.2 million tons in 2012 and similar numbers of ships, tonnage unknown, in 2011. The practical effect, the business effect, is Arctic shipping is open for the third year in a row

    • Amundsen forgot to bring his nuclear powered icebreaker with a three foot thick steel hull.

      • Hugh K says:

Avery? Avery? Where did Avery go….

      • Avery Harden says:

The issue holding back even more shipping is insurance companies sorthing out how to deal with icebergs floating in open water. Breaking sea pack ice with icebreakers is a declining issue.

        • Perhaps you could graph icebreaker capability vs. CO2. That would tell us a lot about the climate.

        • Andy Oz says:

Icebreakers should be a thing of the past and insurance charges minimal since there is no Arctic Ice, according to alarmists.

        • Tel says:

Most of the shipping is Russian shipping into Siberia and there’s not a whole lot of choices so don’t worry too much about insurance.

Whenever you see big tonnage statistics for Arctic routes, they always include the Northeast Passage, to ensure they can count these Russian shipments, and yeah icebreakers feature heavily. A surprising number of ships end up stuck every year and need rescuing because it always freezes faster than they expected.

    • Andy DC says:

TGhe only thing close to a meaningful fact that you have given is that shipping was less in 2013 than in 2012. Consistent with ice recovery. We have known that icebreakers can break up ice for a long time.

    • Kepler says:

Nothing special about that. Now if South American oil tankers were sailing directly over the North Pole to and from Russia during the summers, now that would be news worthy I admit.

    • Phil Jones says:

Avery… Why not address some of the data brought forth here before going on a tangent with shipping in the Arctic? I just don’t see the correlation… More investment… Bigger Ice Breakers, thicker Hulls… Now more Ice…

Meanwhile we’ve had a 20 year span with no temp increase just when the Consensus said it would skyrocket… Record low tornado activity, record low Hurricane activity, growing ice at both poles, early snow across North America, drought is down, floods are down… 100 degree temps are far from the highs do the 30’s…

Seems if CO2 were so important… None of this would be possible …

  2. Andy DC says:

The reason is so that members of the Summitt Country Club will have a better view of their lush, green golf course. Also will be able to watch all the action at the Greenland Open, which is now considered golf’s 5th major championship.

  3. squid2112 says:

Oh my, those greens are looking saaaweeeet. I just got finished with 27 holes, I think I might head on up to the Greenland Country Club for another 18 … it has to be warmer (and not as much wind) than it was today here in Nashville… brr…

  4. wulliejohn says:

Because the designer came from Queensland.

  5. geologyjim says:

Wait a minute! That greenish complex on the left looks – just – like – a – fracking – operation!!!!!
A tall rig and Baker tanks. OMG – we’re all DOOOOOOOOMED!!!

  6. Ed Caryl says:

It’s built on stilts so that air can circulate under it keeping the ice from melting from the heated building.
