The fire season is probably over, with no large fires burning and below normal temperatures in the west. The US had less than 40,000 fires this year – the smallest number since 1984.

In 1938, the US had more than four times as many fires as 2013
Obama says that we are having more fires now, because – as usual – he has no idea what he is talking about.
Why would you use total number of fires instead of total acreage to describe fire trends?
A large grass fire will burn a lot of acreage, but not be particularly interesting.
But a 100,000 acre forest fire is much more damaging than 100 50 acre forest fires. Yet this analysis would imply the latter is 100 times more damaging.
Fire burn acreage was well below normal, and the second lowest in a decade.
OK, but you don’t seem to agree that’s more relevant to the issue of fire trends rather than number of fires.
They are both important statistics.
BTW – forest fires are an essential part of the forest cycle.
So this is a bad trend.
Max – It’s another example of how alarmists are lying about everything and the data doesn’t support their propaganda. Including what or rather who starts the fires.

Logically, deforestation leads to less forest fires because there is less forest. But alarmists lack an ability to think logically.
“These people are mass murderers, these people are terrorists” Premier Mike Rann said.

I agree with Rann. Starting fires in summer that cause fatalities should result in a murder charge. In Australia the number or area of fires has nothing to do with the CAGW scam.
